E-grilles still working without power?

Post by Tony Weather » 22 Feb 2016, 00:03

Bug Description:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Disable power in a area.
2. Be a poor alien that runs into a somehow live grille.
3. Die.

Was told to report this.

because of the way marines tend to mess with wires and the way it's set up, they can be attached to two or more apc's or even a sourse line from the generators

SPOILERS:

APCS do not control E-grills.
It's wired directly into the power-net. Sadly, the best option to disable them is to somehow destroy the cables. Maybe I'll adjust the attack-by to let Xenos cut them, or maybe melt them with the acids.

Still, though, can't you attack the power source (engineering SMES room's APC) to disable them anyway?

I'm not sure that I've ever seen a definite ruling on the aciding of SMES units, though currently its counted as metagaming and is pretty difficult to justify as anything but.
Edit: SMES room APC and not SMES units themselves, oops. As for SMES units, they're directly linked to the power grid via the wires and don't rely on the APCs, so they'll continue to supply power to the grid depending on what their outputs are set to. Only way would be to sever the wires.

Might be better to just nerf the shock damage or have probability to weaken them when they touch it. Melting grilles with acid spit can also be a valid option.

you can melt grilles normally, or destroy them with the heavy spit spitters and praetorians have, it takes two hits.
however that's used rarely because the aliens simply have no idea it works.

Most probably this isn't a bug. I tricked aliens this way before into slashing an APC (getting stunned), and then another to slash my egrille (got stunned too) thinking that power was off. I deliberately powered the grilles from the main power line instead of the APC net.

It's all about wiring, but not many people actually trace the power lines dutifully when they are working as engineers.

nah it goes the other way too, cables running from an apc with a full power cell won't electrify grilles if the apc doesn't have an external power source. It's consistent with the behaviour of apcs, they generally power the things that aren't powered by wires

the ability for aliens to slash or acid wires would be good though
So this is what cluwning feels like?
