Tally marks

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Using a combat knife on a M41A, M37, M4A3, .44 or M39 or a helmet should etch a tally mark on the weapon / helmet.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Immersions, possibly. Surely, it'll provide some of that much-yearned individuality, with kill counters and whatnot.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Using a knife on a helmet / weapon would produce a short message. After a few seconds of immobility, the tally would be complete. From that point on, examining the helmet / weapon would produce a message below the original description, stating how many tally marks are etched into it.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Coding magicks - should not prove entirely too hard or time-consuming.

POSSIBLY, and this is a big OPTIONAL, a set of sprites could be produced to give a rough estimate of the status of the object - untouched, a few etches, absolutely covered.

Thing is, tally marks are easy to represent with a few lines of text and, at most, two, three sprites per object - they ARE gray lines, after all.

Decals, well. First off, can't convey detail with things as small as our objects.
Plus, more work for Joshuu, which is always bad. ( )

Could be nice. On an extra note, if marines get tally marks, I'd like to see preds be able to tally on their mask, since it would also add a nice layer of emerssions

Seems someone is overestimating the scope of this suggestion.

Mind me, if someone scratched their helmet to a SHINING BEACON OF OTHERWORDLY JUSTICE AMIDST THE WRITHING MASSES, you wouldn't notice a thing unless you examined their helmet or they held it up to you.

For added cool points, various types of tallies could be counted separately, you know, just for;

Crosses, regular lines, crude skulls, asterisks, Xs, etc.

I'd say that marines customizing their equipment is absolutely the least in terms of insubordination that would go on in any normal round.
