Succumbing.

Post by Egorkor » 24 Feb 2016, 14:26

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Bring back the succumb verb that was "fixed" because of something nobody used/abused anyway or did it rarely.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
Marines won't have to suffer cause they cannot succumb, i.e. spend 40 minutes in crit.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
It'd work the same way it always works.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
Coding.

1+ Just do it! I don't want to wait minutes on crit to die, seriously.

If you have a chest burster in you, but can sit in crit for a long time, I don't see the need? Do you KNOW you are going to die before the chest burster comes out?

No, you do not know that, there's no timer, if you mean that. The entire point of that verb was to let the people who didn't want to wait for a long time observe the round as a ghost without actually ghosting with no chance of being cloned.

To clarify - you can't succumb at all, either infected or not, it's been tested by various people, and yes, you can't do that even if your screen is fully white, that's been done by me.

The removal of succumbing was very recent, Mauro.

If you are in crit and with a larva you shouldn't even pop, you're literally dying, if the larva forces your last forces to help it pop, you're going to die from it and the larva isn't going to pop anyway.

+1 All the way, if you are crit you shouldn't even pop, no hard crits to nest, chop the legs if you really need it, pain crit doesn't put you to sleep.

Yea

+1 but have it only in crit, not KOed or anything. Crawling mechanic would be cool too.

Sorta have a crawling mechanic I think. If you're missing both legs, but would normally still be able to walk, you'll kinda dead fish flop

Works best if you have prosthetic legs since they don't count as total damage as much. I once crawled around punching a drone. It had no idea how to handle the situation.

bring back succumbing

being nested is already boring, being nested with literally nothing to do is garbage
So this is what cluwning feels like?

A very effective strategy now is to hug a marine, slash him into crit before the hugger infects, and then nest him. This is completely within the rules and because of natural healing and the lack of succumbing this means that you can safely nest a host without needing a sentinel to watch him that closely.

how's that nerfing though, it's been here all the time, and nobody complained.
though infernus said succumbing apparently has been returned, but I didn't try it out yet.

I never said that...
However, I a working on something to discourage aliens to do this, and nerfing natural healing. I tested it a it and managed to get out of critical from -80HP.

why not just bring back succumbing? it was nicely balanced before and was seemingly only removed because of a difficult to reproduce bug/exploit (viewtopic.php?f=86&t=4168)

e: rereading that thread it apparently only ever happened once to the OP, was it ever even actually a bug?
So this is what cluwning feels like?

I give this suggestion a +1, as honestly I think aliens SHOULD pay for injuring hosts too much(e.g. Cutting their legs arms off).
If anyone is wondering I prefer to play alien, but seeing other aliens injure marines WHILE THEY ARE NESTED just so they 'can't escape'(it's very unlikely that they will be able to escape anyway!) does not go well with me, plus seeing ravagers and hunters bring in marines without legs/arms(dragging them probably did additional damage anyway) and then going 'Mama! I got a FRESH host!' is just... Ugh.
