Huggers under walls/doors

Post by Focks » 11 Mar 2016, 02:21

Right, after some talk, between a few people, it was suggested by Allan to make a bug-report about this

Bug Description: Facehuggers placed under resin doors and walls can jump through the closed/impassible structure and jump onto unsuspecting victims. (by way of magic teleportation/phasing alien technology)

Steps to reproduce:
1.Have an egg or hugger on a tile
2.Build a resin wall/door over it
3.Have someone walk by
3.1.Magic jumping beans(crabs) that phase through walls/doors.

+1 Can confirm this has been used before and is still possible to be done.

Wasn't sure about whether it was allowed in the past, but Allan has clarified that it's considered powergaming.

This is one of the annoying things that are hard to counter, as you either waste ammo on it, or try to walk up to it, stop moving and try alt+clicking on it to kill the hugger, and sometimes even if you don't move (this might be actually rare) the hugger STILL WILL jump on you, wasting a precious helmet (if you had one)

I was under the impression this was intentional to help Xenos defend the hive better. I mean on the Marines side you get E-Grilles that they can just straight shoot through, so it only seems fair.

No, hugger or egg under wall or door is not fair and generally very stupid. Aliens can clearly see grills and few spits easily destroy them.

But only one caste line can spit, any marine can shoot a wall down...

I'll give it to you for human made stuff, definitely. That shouldn't be a thing. The stuff Xenos can make seems like it should stay free game though.

Not really because it's still a wall even if it's alien or else your saying their is enough room for something the size of a human face to move through so I should be able to toss a grenade through it as well. And yea its power gaming according to the admins and mods I've asked

You assume marines DON'T bring ridiculous amounts of ammunition. The average marine carries 14-17 clips for their main weapon, and one or two for their sidearm.

It's also malleable resin that in canon the aliens hide in/on. Something as small as a hugger being stashed in/on there seems totally normal to me.

But that's just my opinion and I'm not super interested in fighting about it. I've stated my case already, so I'm content to wait and see what happens, if anything.

...Where are they holding all that ammo, exactly?

he is probably assuming every single marine that plays is a retard and just puts ammo in his pockets, makes his entire backpack ammo, makes his entire belt ammo, and putting 2 more clips into they armor

That is essentially the Standard marine loadout.

No, its not, i rarely see a marine who is dumb enough to load themself full of ammo, most i see carry 4-7 clips, they rarely carry a giant amount of clips since they need other stuff to really have a chance beside trying to be a machine gun

Marines get e-grills, barricades, girders, and false walls to defend themselves with. These are all difficult for xenos to break through unless the is a crusher. Even with a crusher it can only destroy one thing per charge (minus the barricade which takes several).
All of the xenos structures can be easily shot or stabbed down, and are much easier to destroy than the aforementioned marine structures.
Unless xenos get some stronger fortifications, I think it is fair for them to be able to put huggers on doors.

Except you forget that Xenos get free plasma regen, but Marines' costs resources and take a much longer time to build. Besides, sentinel castes can just melt through those anyway. E-grilles can also be easily broken if you got Spitters/Praetorians.

More importantly, hugger under walls shouldn't be treated as a feature for balance, but rather a bug tbh.

If they have a hugger under a wall or door, you can't stab it as it will insta jump, resulting in helmet loss, egg is more controllable but sometimes they jump instantly instead of standing still

Fixed for resin structures.
