Based on the input from the discussion thread, these are the OFFICIAL procedures.
Firstly, the new rank system (not in order):
1. Trial Moderators
Trial Moderator, is a temporary rank, given to people who have been accepted as a moderator. It lasts for 1-2 weeks, and at the end, you will either be pushed to Moderator, or given additional time as a Trial moderator (upto 2 weeks). If, after the second set of 2 weeks, you are not moved to Moderator, you will be dropped back to regular player.
2. Moderators
Moderators, will be brought in, the same way we've been doing it, applications through the applications section of the forum. Continue to +1 and -1 the same way we've been doing, HOWEVER, the HeadMin and HeadMod each have VETO power, and can close/deny any application. Moderators, are the PRIMARY police of the server. Their #1 job, is to ensure the rules are enforced, and Ahelps are answered. They are supposed to make sure new players are helped if they have questions, and should be the first to respond to any incidents.
3. Trialmins
If a moderator has proven themself, the HeadMod/HeadMin can push a promotion to TrialMin. They will have additional powers, and their interactions with players will be observed. This is a TEMPORARY RANK, which lasts for one month. At the end of the month, they will be made a GameAdmin, dropped back to Moderator, or given an additional month of observation (only once).
4. Admins
The job of the Admins (and trialmins) is to handle issues the mods can't handle (for example, if a player is arguing, or taking more than a few PMs to get the situation resolved). Also, Admins are allowed to run events. Admins, will be expected to help new Moderators learn how to properly moderate, and to make sure Trialmins don't abuse power/abilities.
5. HeadMod
The head of ALL the moderators. Essentially, a slightly more special Admin. All the moderators are directly under the Headmod. In addition to being a regular admin, they also have the job, of giving the final say on appeals and applications on the forum (except for Dev Applications), as well as ensuring that moderators are ready to be promoted to Mins.
6. HeadMin
Lord Fuhrer, he is in charge of Everything.
7. Coder/Mapper
People on the Dev Team, with low-level verbs for testing out bugs/issues. They have more access than Admins, BUT, they don't have admin panel. Their primary job, is to maintain server stability and promote development. They have the authority of a moderator, as far as rules are concerned. They should only need to answer Ahelps, if there are no moderators/admins on.
8. HeadDeveloper
In charge of the Dev Team, and overall development, ranging from Coding, Design, and Mapping.
9. Developer
Member of the Dev Team, they have the same level of access (and authority) as an admin, but should only be answering/procesisng ahelps if no other mods/admins are online. Their main job, is to locate bugs and make notes on balance.
Admin/Moderation Procedures:
1. TAKE CLEAR NOTES: Make sure, if you interact with someone for a reason that requires discipline (a warning, kick, or ban), you take CLEAR NOTES.
2. BE ACTIVES: Make sure, your active on the forums AND the game. Failure to be active, will result in deadmining.
3. AHELPS ARE PRIORITY: Above ALL other things (events, you playing) Ahelps take precedence. Moderators, should be the first to respond, but admins should try and monitor messages and make sure they are aware of the situations, in case they need to step in.
4. PUNISHMENT SHOULD FIT THE CRIME: As in, if someone is stealing minor items, that doesn't mean they need a 7 day ban for their first offense. Be sensible.
5. AVOID LONG BANS: Try to make the bans fit what the infraction was, and adjust for history. But don't go giving like, 30 day bans for no reason. If you need to ban for more than 7 days, make a post in the staff forum, so we are aware of the situation.
6. DO NOT PERMABAN UNLESS YOU CLEAR IT WITH A FULL ADMIN OR ABOVE: Meaning, if your a moderator or Trialmin, no perma-banning without permission. If you believe someone needs a perma-ban, make a post in the forums. If it's authorized, it will be added to their notes. That being said, if a note says "Next Incident, PERMA", and the rank is Admin, HeadMod, Headmin, or HeadDeveloper, feel free to slap them in the face with the permaban-hammer.
7. UNBANNING: Any ADMIN can remove a ban that is less than 24 hours. If the ban is LONGER than 24 hours, and appealed on the forums, it needs to be approved by the HeadMin or HeadMod first to be removed. Permabans should ONLY be removed by Headmin or Headmod, even if approved on the forum.
8. EVENTS: Only FULL ADMINS should run major-game altering events (like Nuke Squad, Isolation, Attack On Alien, Thunderdome). Trialmins, can run lower level events (Trader, Assassin). Basically, if it's an event that one admin can run EASILY because there is only one character, it's fine for trialmins, anything else, needs Full Admin. Also, if you start a big event, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE TIME TO FINISH IT. Oh, and Ahelps take priority still. Finally, don't run major events, if your the only admin on, and if there are more than 60 people, don't run events at all.
9. DO NOT RUN EVENTS BACK TO BACK. Any admin who does this, will be demoted to moderator.
10. WITNESSES/ASSISTANCE Be sure to include the witnessing and assisting moderators/administrators as it can clear up confusion and inform us whom was on the task.
11. IF YOU BAN SOMEONE, MOVE THEIR CHARACTER TO JAIL, AND USE KILL. I'm getting tired as shit of scrolling though 2 hours of "X snores" when trying to investigate.
I should mention, pretty much EVERYTHING in here, we do already, so it's going to be almost no changes for anyone, but I thought, we should have this down somewhere, as well as, available for new moderators/admins to learn from.
