Moderator Application- Biolock/Crossman
Byond ID: Biolock
Colonial Marines Character: Alex Crossman
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Timezone: EST
On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate? I can't really pin a number yet, I'm still transitioning duty stations (I'm sure Apop knows what that's like), but I intend to be as active as I was before I went dark.
Do you have a Skype account (Skype is REQUIRED)? Yes
Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)? Yes, yes I do. I have experience on several servers including, but not limited to, Colonial Marines.
Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers? Yes, I played on CM since before it was separated from New Eden
What other servers do you play on? N/A, I use to play on Unbound Travels, but when that went down I also sometimes played on Aurora. Though... CM is the only server I've played on since I've returned.
What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM? ^
Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before? Yes, and it was accepted, I retired because of a duty assignment, and now I'm back to harass everyone.
Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where? Negative
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines? No
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, where and When (roughly)? No
Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.
1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.
Generally I would ghost the initial briefing, but under the assumption I didn't see what happened, I would jump to him to see what he was shooting at. If he was just shooting at nothing, I would message him, asking him to stop shooting in the briefing area because that tends to lead to unintended consequences. If he was shooting at another individual, I would allow the fight to continue, allowing the problem to be solved IC. If he was shooting randomly at people, I would freeze him and then address the situation from there making sure to get the round back into the "progression" stage before dealing with the culprit.
2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.
I would immediately patch the breach, fix the atmosphere, and then attempt to uncover who caused the breach.
3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.
The first time around I would tell them that command has denied them access to the code. If the marines are still acting like huge pansies, I would eventually inform them of the aliens remaining.
4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.
I would first handle the grenade throwing marine by freezing him; before I gave him the time of day I would be sure to make sure the victims of his bombing were healed. After that I would confront the chemist and ask him why he gave the marine the napalm; assuming his answer is as expected "To fight aliums" I would warn him that he could be punished for giving a griefer the means to grief... though personally, unless he's an offender himself/ past offender, I would leave a note on his files to alert other staff to a possible future pattern. Finally I would go speak with the griefer... I would honestly have expected him to disconnect by the time I got to him, if that's the case, it's a week long ban. Alternatively, if we talk through what happened I would give him a punishment seen fit.
5. A played is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.
I know the "right" answer is to direct him to rule 3, "Respect the staff", however I would talk with him and see if he was angry or just trying to be funny. If he was angry, I'd see what I could do for him/ talk to him about.
6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.
I would direct the player to the naming rule and offer to change his name in game for the current round... this route varies by the degree of asshatness of the player.
6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, noone has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.
I'd simply say that I don't make the rules, I just enforce them, and that we can't start making exceptions because it wouldn't be fair. I would also try and help him come up with a name similar, but different enough to appease both him and the rule.
7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.
I would message the player asking what he was doing and then the discussion would progress from there. If he was cooperative odds are I would leave a note in his file alerting other staff that this issue was addressed. If he was uncooperative, he clearly had no intention of playing as a doctor to begin with, so I would remove that option from him in the future.
8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
I would explain to him that there isn't any IC circumstance that allows for OOC rule breaking (without an admin intervention). I'd leave a note on his file to alert other staff of the incident.
9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
I'd likely sent a message from Central Command first to the command staff, alerting them of the disproportionate numbers, if that failed, I would create a crew announcement, if that fails, I've pretty much exhausted all my powers as a moderator.
10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.
If I had the time, I would freeze him and begin the general banter between staff and players. If there was not time, which there generally is not, I would provide him with a 3 hour ban as per the rules.
11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.
I'd PM him telling him that he's disrupting the round start gameplay. And while I personally think that stuff is hilarious, as a staff member, can not permit.
12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.
Clearly this question is gunning to have me elaborate on how violence should be an escalation and not just a flood gate of "he punched me, so it's a green light to kill", so I'd check the logs and see if it was literally ONE punch and then pew pew pew. If that was the case, I would rejuvenate the killed player and tell him to carry on with his gameplay. I would then have a talk with the other player about the escalation of violence. Should he cooperate, I'd likely let him off with a warning.
Any additional information you'd like to add? I really did enjoy being a staff on this server. I look forward to being back, whether it's as just a player, or staff as well.
