Communal Brig

Post by LordLoko » 17 Apr 2016, 15:54

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Currently we have a brig that encourages going AFK: a small space with nothing to do but wait cuffed on a bed. It's boring and helps nothing, it doesn't also have a "RP punishment" just a boring lock-up, don't get me started with the permabrig, it's like the other one BUT WITH A MUZZLE THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO TAKE OFF!

I suggest we change our corrunt prision system to swedish one to a "Comunal birg" similar to Baystation12 (Image below)

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): It has two ultilities: first one is to give prisioners something to do and the other one is a less boring prision.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):

Basically, transform the brig into this:
► Show Spoiler
But adapted to CMs map.
We can take the current cells and put a small blast door that can be opened by the officers when the prisioners start/finish their time. Below this blast door will be a small lounge with a central table and stuff so the prisioners can entretain themselves: deck of cards, RPG dices, a small place to plant a garden and food, a bathroom and a bedroom where permanent prisioners will be put in.
Speaking of permanent, there wil be NO MORE ISOLATION ROOM, perm prisioners will be put by another entrance (acessible only by MPs acess cards) where permanent prisioners are transported in.

"But what if we have a riot?" You may ask, well, we have some flashers on the middle of the prision that can be activated by the MPs when we have riots, if the prisioners prove to be too stubborn, there will be a small room in maintence that can be acessed only by MPs, again, that has a N20 canister with a pipe leading to the prision, this canister gas can be only activated by a simple valve. Outisde the brig will be gas masks so MPs can enter to clen the mess.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
Not a big map overhaul, however, it could be a lot of work.
This requires doing the changes proposed, but it wouldn't be A LOT of work, even I could easily do that.

-1 because is not going to be used too much, it's very rare to see more than 1 marine arrested at the same time.

I like the idea. Personally, I've never been brigged, but the fact that it's a tiny 2x4 cell doesn't lead to really any interesting moments. At least with the communal idea, both the MP's, and the brigged marines, would have something to do.

Neutral
Shouldn't be too hard to map, but honestly, I don't see how it's going to be used much.

I don't really feel this is necessary as our server doesn't really have human antags. On a normal server antags, rebels, cultists will all be doing time regularly so they need something to do. On this server except for the occasional exception almost all people stuffed in brig will be there for shitting up the round.

The brig is not meant to be a fun place. People are sent there rarely, and without antags it is usually for being a complete piece of shit. It's not worth coder time to improve their situation, especially as this is a military prison, which would have much less amenities for prisoners than a regular prison.

Basically this. Coder time is better spent on gameplay, not a playhouse for griefers and the rare mutineer who gets caught alive. Besides it's lore friendly. Have you ever seen a military prison? They are fucking awful. I can only imagine what one would be like on a spaceship where there is already limited room.

No.

This isn't a fun place. This is meant to be a punishment place. It's for griefers/Marine Law breakers, not for Rpers. Typically, if your getting tossed into the brig, your getting a demotion. It's not a place for "games".
