nerf alien tackles

Post by lucashunter608 » 27 Apr 2016, 12:27

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): i think i'm a little edgy idiot but i'll say it anyway, alien tackles are a little OP right now, we already got spitters, face huggers and crushers to do the job of disabling someone, just nerf tackle a realy tiny bit

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): it will make marines way happier

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): it would be normal as a tackle, but with more misses and maybe a tiny timer to recharge the tackle

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):

I think the tackle is fine. I would prefer it changed completely, along with some of the other melee mechanics, but nerfing doesn't seem like the right way to go.

Okay then hypothetical, a marine breaks out of the hive and runs like hell, you catch up to them as a drone and what do you do? You can't kill them because it hurts the hive, and you need to do what an alien would ACTUALLY do if a host was attempting escape. As a marine you have (most likely) two guns, a knife, and your fists. This is their ONLY means of capturing you other than spit which has too long a cooldown to be viable.

First of all, Alien tackles have already been severely nerfed from what they used to be on the old Nostromo map.

Second off, feel lucky you are not receiving a warning for using a slur term unnecessarily. Although this is a forum and you might be generally angry at a situation or just using general speech common in your vocabulary. You need to consider that this website is available to people of all ages, groups, ethnicity, and orientations. Usage of slur words ruin an environment that is otherwise safe.

EDIT: User complied to request to edit out slur.

Tackles ok I think. I find when it lags, then the alien has the upper hand. But otherwise I don't think it needs nerfing.

Alien tackles are fine, when there are multiple marines tackles become instantly a death sentence, stunning the man below you but also preventing you from moving. If you're in ANY group with (Edit: a competent marine) even one marine, and a hunter/runner pounces you, they'll die.

I do think aliens spamming tackle over and over seems a little weird. I think giving aliens a "grabbing/holding" mechanic like humans have would be a good call. This would solve the issue of aliens trying to *hold* their prey from escaping. If they want to quickly drag their prey away, i think tackle should cause a small/medium amount of damage. Lore wise, the sharp claws would likely cut a person up. Gameplay wise, it makes the alien have a choice of either taking the time to safely secure their grasp on their prey, or quickly knocking them down and injuring them to get away.

something does feel off to just see a row of "the alien tackles you but your already down"x9 but to have no actual detriment to that take place.

Maybe have it so being tackled stays the same BUT there's a cooldown in tackles.

For example, you get tackled, and when you get up there's a two second cool down until you can be tackled again. Thats enough to pull your gun / nade if your fast enough or just run like hell while zig zagging. So that you can't be immediately tackled RIGHT when you get up, which is how it works right now.

Tackle is staying for now. I hope it will be replaced completely when the time comes, but there's no way to keep infected hosts down otherwise. Denied.
