Hobo's Winter Sprites
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
New snow equipment that I am currently creating to be implemented on the Ice map.
Basic equipment and clothing fit for the climate.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
Better immersion into the ice map by changing the appearance of the marines to suit the environment rather than a recolour of their current armour.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
The Overcoats would provide a layer of warmth as well as 'camouflage' the marines. (Purely an IC purpose)
The foldable equipment would snugly fit away in the marine's packs and can be unfolded and used at anytime, much like the entrenching tools soldiers are issued now.
The fire pit (Still in development) would provide the same purpose as the space heater, however, powered by wood or flammable material, whilst also providing aesthetic for the FOB or outside camps, and is more befitting of a snowy climate (Picture three or so marines huddled around it, eating and talking).
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
The overcoat would go over the armour, how this will be done I do not know.

http://imgur.com/a/zXi1o The foldable entrenching tools, also serves as a close combat weapon if needed, much like the sharpened entrenching tools in WWI.
Screenshots of the fire pit will come soon

My manfoldable entrenching tools
I play as this guy, proudly being dismembered by extraterrestrials since 2015.
Sometimes I might play other guys, you never know.

Yeah, the snow map gave me a big 'ol bastogne feeling, so these entrenching tools and covers look good. I think the cover should go over armor though. +1.

I recommend you apply to be a spriter. You can support the server by producing sprites and Josh can teach you or help you with any questions you may have.

I would but I'd only be a spriter for a little over a month. Would this matter?Adjective wrote:I recommend you apply to be a spriter. You can support the server by producing sprites and Josh can teach you or help you with any questions you may have.

It's up to you as to whether this matters. Applicant or not I'm sure Josh would help you learn anyway.Smooth Hobo wrote: I would but I'd only be a spriter for a little over a month. Would this matter?

Not at all. You just need to make sure that you are 16 or older, and that your account is at least one month old.Smooth Hobo wrote: I would but I'd only be a spriter for a little over a month. Would this matter?

I have had a look at other applications and it seems that it is preferred when people can sprite...from scratch? Most of my things are only recolours and shape changes unfortunatelyInfernus wrote:

Re: Hobo's Winter Sprites
I personalty find it hard to start from the empty sprite. I always use another icon as a template, even tho the icon at the end does not resemble the template I use :P
Just because it had it's shape changed, it doesn't mean it is not good, but you need to make sure it looks like it is an actually new icon that has a meaning. Turning gray outfits into red is a nono.
Take the example of snow uniforms and normal ones. Same icon turned into white-bluish color and with extended part at the bottom. Entirely new icon.
Take your time and pick your best icons for the entry.

I'm not a spriter, but I imagine using already existing sprites as templates is the idea

Yes, that is correct. It's less of a preference and more of a base requirement.Smooth Hobo wrote: I have had a look at other applications and it seems that it is preferred when people can sprite...from scratch? Most of my things are only recolours and shape changes unfortunately

Re: Hobo's Winter Sprites
So im guessing this suggestion was rejected based on our current snow uniorms? if so move to locked and resolved? ( firepits/ entrenching tools would be a +1 for me though)

But seriously, does uh, anyone know the way out?!
