Dissallow huggers near ladders

Post by killinkyle » 06 May 2016, 21:24

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Do not allow aliens to place Facehuggers within 3-4 tiles of a ladder

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Disallows instant alien hugger wins.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Currently, unless someone has a grenade and KNOWS there are huggers down there, it's possible to have moments like this; http://puu.sh/oIWHN/b12482fe04.png Where its literally impossible to go down the ladder at all. Aliens can completely huggerstack ladders, and I just had a long lasting argument with an admin on the legitness of placing two huggers on a tile. It makes it completely unplayable and uncounterable by whatever first marine goes down there.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Change the rules. Simple change. No Facehuggers within 3-4 tiles of the ladder. I'm sorry, but this is literally an unfun and uncool thing that breaks the game.

Agreed, seen a carrier clutch a game against three marines by doing this, first one was instantly down, second one two seconds later, third one got carrier hugged.
Game lasted another hour and aliens made a major victory.

IRL you would be able to atleast check the ladder before going down, you cannot.
IRL you could lob a grenade down, you can here, but only what, six people? Get grenades, and they're already rare as hell.

This should be fixed with the new CQC update, where leaving huggers on the ground would make them inert.

If you don't move after going down a ladder huggers won't hug you.

I think it was said that huggers would be inert only for a set amount of time, that is rather short. AFAIK...

Might be. We'll see, I guess.

Actually you're able to click the ladder with a grenade, it'll prime and automatically teleport it up or down according to the latest changelog. So in when in doubt at times, break out the inital grenade, then head up/down in those situations.

Even with a grenade there's still tons of huggers down there and alien only need to push you so that 2-3 huggers will jump and rape your face. Grenade only cover 3x3 and i've seen the whole room is filled with huggers and camping alien. CM is turning into waiting/camping game now.

That's if you're considering standard grenades, the researcher is able to produce several, though rarely do marines wish to take their grenades. With some help from the RO or engineering in making large beakers or components, some short research into preparation, you're able to field larger blast radius ones if calculated right.

Think it goes up to about... 5-8 tiles somewhere. Still in cases of explosives crates, RO could save the points were medbay not occupied, getting parts down to researcher from their autolathe just for some metal to glass. You get alot more out of it than one normal explosives crate.

And that's not even getting to proxy ones, or perhaps remote detonated ones at times. Just by added the priming and teleporting said grenade by using it on any ladder makes things earlier for marines to advice, but you still need to coordinate and to plan things out carefully.

Right I should probably get some rest in if typos are creeping in this late.

This is already solved with grenades and such, plus they don't always guard them, like the east one

I'll implement a temporary solution until CQC update is in.

Also no mines near ladders?

Yes, that would be reasonable considering our much less powerful version of mines won't be able to be put near them.

You can now look up and down the ladders and throw flares and flashlights.
