USCM Dossier - Oscar Blackburn

Post by The Humanitarian » 26 May 2016, 09:32

Full name: Oscar Chris Blackburn

Nickname(s): None (yet)

Age: 42

Birth date: August 10th, 2100 (8 years in cryogenic stasis.)

Gender: Male

Position: Combat medic/medical doctor, potential as a SL.

Notable traits: Slight limp on his prosthetic left leg, with scars along the left side of his body, reaching to just under his chin. Grizzled appearance, with a well trimmed beard. Fan of cigars.

Persona: No stranger to life in space, Oscar moves with a strong degree of confidence in most environments. As a person, he seems cheerful and upbeat, with a healthy dose of pessimistic humour and sarcasm. He has a darker interior, however. His eyes betray some significant amounts of trauma in his past. This is most likely due to his experiences as a medical doctor aboard orbitals of various colony worlds before he joined the military. He seems a little uncomfortable as a marine, showing a little disdain for the aggressive and violent attitudes of the men and women around him. That said, he cares deeply for their well-being and health, often blaming himself for their deaths.

History: Little is known about his early life, he first appears in official records as a medical patient suffering from cryogenic burn damage in 2129. As a result of this, his entire left leg was amputated, and he is left scarred for life. It is believed that he was a victim of a back-alley cryogenics program, offering long-duration trips off planet for low income members of society. From here, he is recorded in a number of planetary police and security force records, apparently falling into organised crime. Most of the records indicate he was some kind of specialist-for-hire, focusing on the theft of corporation assets and station based resources. Oscar was eventually pinned down in 2136, where he was charged with murder, theft, and a host of other charges. He pleaded not guilty to the murder charge, and it was eventually downgraded to manslaughter. He spent four years incarcerated, held by corporation-based security contractors, until being offered the chance to serve out his sentence aboard stations, as a medical doctor in training. This was on the agreement that he was to eventually join the military and use his skills as a medic or doctor. During his time aboard stations he learned the medical trade fast, being exposed to some of the more graphic horrors that life in space has to offer. He joined the Marines in 2148, spent around two years in training and at smaller bases around the galaxy before being assigned to the Sulaco. This is his first real deployment.

Relations: Made various acquaintances aboard the Sulaco, but no real friends as of yet.

Basic appearance: Brown hair and beard, with a slight limp on his left leg. Light green, slightly haunted eyes. Usually grinning.

Likes: Burritos, hats, enthusiastic marines.

Dislikes: Marines who don't respect the chain of command or disobey/ignore orders. On the flip side of this, he has a strong dislike of incompetent command staff and Weyland-Yutani. He is offended by the callousness that his fellow marines show towards death, particularly how corpses and gore are often ignored and left uncovered.

Strengths: Usually collected in high-stress situations, learned to manage fairly significant amounts of physical pain and trauma, competent medical skills. He has a great deal of respect for the dead.

Weaknesses: Death weighs on him heavily, particularly with people he knows or has developed a bond with. Often risks his life retrieving bodies and the wounded.

First draft! Hope his history isn't too over the top/implausible. I've had this character for some time, and his history has already been pretty established, I just tweaked it a little for CM. Let me know what I can improve!
