Prone Stance for Marines

Post by Surrealistik » 28 May 2016, 13:20

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):

Marines gain the ability to do one of the most basic and fundamental maneuvers in infantry combat: to go prone.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):

Presents interesting new tactical options to marines; allows them to mitigate FF (such as from AP cancer rounds) albeit at a tradeoff.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
  • Marines gain the ability to go prone/go to ground.
  • Going prone from a standing position is instantaneous. Getting up from prone features a short delay.
  • While prone a marine is able to do anything he could while standing, though his movement is restricted to a crawl (drastically reduced movement speed compared to walking/running).
  • While prone a marine's accuracy with ranged weapons is slightly increased, recoil with ranged weapons is slightly decreased (attachments like the Bipod and weapons like the Sniper Rifle might increase this benefit), and accuracy with melee weapons is massively decreased.
  • While prone a marine take less explosive damage (which is further reduced if facing away from the source), take more damage from incendiaries and acid sprays/clouds (they're closer and more exposed to the flame/ground residues), enemy projectile attacks are much less likely to hit, and friendly fire is _much_ less likely to hit (or cannot hit).
  • While prone, a marine is much more vulnerable to melee attacks and tackles; they have perfect/almost perfect accuracy, and possibly deal bonus damage.
  • Prone stance is broken by anything that would put you on your ass/stun you/etc.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):

Coding.
Sprites.

Interesting idea however the way you have addressed it is basically a big buff to marines who will end up abusing this.

How so? Going prone has considerable risk; you're slow as fuck and melee/acid aoe rapes you.

Against Praetorian spam you're golden.

Against a mixed force you're facing real risks.

Against melee heavy you're fucked, especially if they're backed by boilers.

This idea has been suggested in different ways such. I believe the bottom line is that it would be exceptionally difficult to code. But alas, it's still a good idea.
I'm stressing way too hard about what to put here, so I'm just gonna leave it blank.... or....

This will be the sixth time we have made this thread it, and we have become exceedingly efficient at it.
