Playerbase representatives.
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Whilst you may think this sounds silly, it really isn't. The playerbase representatives should be part of staff and make sure players voices are heard completely and have full contact with entire staff. Another thing they might be able to do is have ability for "adding/removing marine whitelists" such as CO/XO, etc. Because they'll be playing rounds most of times and investigate how well the players do those roles, give feedback and help as well. No no, the representatives won't be mentor, but players who want to ensure better rounds for themselves and others. They have no abilities of what other staff do, just look after players in several ways, either ghosting.. or participating in the round.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Decreasing in a way the whole mentality of "Staff are a lot worser and coders should stop buffing x and y."
More voices heard, more newbie player talents being given full potential from feedback, many more.
Decreasing the whole "drama" that keeps occuring, having the representatives explain in-depth of x and y.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): The veteran players who understand the game more and the issues will be able to sign up and contribute to the server a lot more.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): just add a new rank for it.

They dont represent the playerbase if they are part of staff.

Re: Playerbase representatives.
They don't have punishment control over a player but only time to talk with the disruptive player, which a lot of staff don't do, but only take action a lot of times. I personally have never been talked to before receiving a permanent ban, ever. Notes keep piling up and up, player has less time to realize.Grypho wrote:They dont represent the playerbase if they are part of staff.
The only thing these representatives have control over is the rounds themselves, looking at who might not be breaking the rules but are being borderline horrible to other players.

Please don't spread misinformation around. This sentence alone makes it clear to me you have no idea what goes on behind the scenes at all.TeknoKot wrote:

Re: Playerbase representatives.
Again, it isn't talking to a player when you tell him "that that is bad don't do it ever again" and then adding a note, TALKING to a player is having a CONVERSATION over why they're being disruptive, how to fix it and improve as a player overall, not give them "do that again and be permabanned".Varnock wrote: Please don't spread misinformation around. Again, I have never been having a conversation with a staff member before over my recent actions and how I can improve, ever.
Also, freemysoul, this is nowhere near a mentor, please read again.

And again, that is a small amount of cases. I personally have helped several people get into the swing of things since I got Moderator, and I see others do it often as well.TeknoKot wrote:

Especially, you know, Mentors. I know you say this isn't mentors, but it really sounds like glorified mentors under another name.

Yes Me, Varnock, Gentlefood, Whistles and KeyWii both constantly talk to those who are Borderline shitty. Again it's hard to see that IF you don't have access to the Staffpms. Again this is just WHO I've seen, doesn't mean that's the only ones.TeknoKot wrote: "DID YOU EVER HAVE A CONVERSATION TO ONE ON ONE TO A PLAYER ABOUT THEIR STUFF THAT IS DISRUPTING EVERYONE ELSE AND GIVE THESE DISRUPTIVE PLAYERS MORE CHANCES TO PLAY IN THE SERVER A LOT MORE SO THEY CAN IMPROVE WHILST YOU HAVING SOME POWERS AND CONTACTS WITH THE ORIGINAL STAFF CAST"

Please, one conversation over ten or twenty minutes with a player about their round contribution or how to change attitude to avoid problems.freemysoul wrote: Yes Me, Varnock, Gentlefood, Whistles and KeyWii both constantly talk to those who are Borderline shitty. Re: Playerbase representatives.
We discussed this in a headstaff meeting.
We really debated it but realized it would be a pointless position in the end.
We listen to everything and we are all players who do play the game. No one gets paid, theres no for profit or personal gain from the staff team. So a lot of player issues are the staffs issues as well.
Also, what youre suggesting isnt a player representative. You want someone to question and berate staff during and after rounds about their admin/mod decisions. Myself and TR already handle that and we wouldnt give someone a position like that.
A player representative is someone who would get direct information regarding dev work and supply us with ideas. Not some player mod who polices our staff team.
Its actually really frustrating to see mis-information spread here. If you saw the lengths, times and effort we put into some of these players to "talk" to them you wouldnt accuse us of anything.
I do find it funny though, that someone who was perma-banned and given a second chance keeps making threads like these. You really need to calm down with this "snowflake" stuff as you're really pushing it again lately and steering yourself in a bad direction.

Re: Playerbase representatives.
That. Once you are a part of staff, that's when you stop being a regular player. Most of the mentors are basically your average players with some elevated privileges, and we usually look at other players while observing or playing. We also offer suggestions, commentary, and what have you to the staff team. But all staff basically does this, and it's not like everyone is a faceless suit with no unique opinions or ideas. As far as the whole community lawyer thing is concerned, I've always felt like the staff was willing to listen to me as a player, and I don't really see how this would really improve anything.Grypho wrote:They dont represent the playerbase if they are part of staff.

Re: Playerbase representatives.
The staff are as much players as the non-staff. I, for one, experience the same issues and problems as any given player. It's not a lack of staff comprehension that prevents some problems from being solved, it's the lack of a player's individual shortsightedness and tunnel vision that make it appear that way.
I'm stressing way too hard about what to put here, so I'm just gonna leave it blank.... or....

Re: Playerbase representatives.
Uuuuuugh. This I can relate to as staff on another server, and I think this is a common thing that people get into their heads.
"As soon as someone becomes staff, they have changed, they're a completely different person. They are no longer a player, they are one of the higher powers."
At least, that's how I've seen it. Staff still play, staff are essentially players, but with the power to fix people's problems, and do cool things, as well as remove the people that are, to be frank, horrible, and rulebreakers. However, they also have a stricter set of behavioural guidelines. Staff must set examples for regular players, they must play well and roleplay well. The staff DO listen to players, they DO help as much as they can, but they're only human. There are flaws, but this is not one of them. What you're suggesting is essentially what every member of staff does, but limiting it with mentor powers.
So, long and rambling speech about why I'm giving a -1.

No, they play the "devil's advocate" and people who are in that position are well known, supportive contributes, they're there to talk to staff and maybe give a little bright side so they could probably change their mind. You're taking this out of context.
Again, they represent PLAYERS and PLAYERBASE itself, of COURSE they're going to give many idea supplies and sort, but they are ALSO going to work with players helping them to fix their issues.Feweh wrote:A player representative is someone who would get direct information regarding dev work and supply us with ideas. I'm going to give my personal opinion here, it's actually because of staff like you I'm making this suggestion. You take everything as a personal attack and insulting, despite it being silly quotes and whatnot. You always go for the punishment, because you have a mentality of "staff are always right" and some others do so too, not just you.Feweh wrote:Its actually really frustrating to see mis-information spread here. THIS IS NOT A PERSONAL ATTACK OR INSULTING, THIS IS AN OPINION I EXPRESSED.
I found this quite insultive actually, right now. Wanna hear something other funny? Just recently you gave me a board warning because of a silly quote when you made fun of Desolane's signature, what did I write? "Y-You don't have a signature.. It's just y-you yourself". AND THAT WAS IT, THAT'S ALL I WROTE, IT WAS JUST A SMALL SENTENCE. YOU TOOK IT AS INSULTIVE, YOU DELETED IT SO I COULDN'T SCREENSHOT IT, YET YOU PONDER WHY DO A LOT OF PLAYERS DISLIKE YOU AS A HEADMOD.Feweh wrote:I do find it funny though, that someone who was perma-banned and given a second chance keeps making threads like these. Yes, I made this thread, many replied to me, this is a suggestion, it can be given a negative or a positive, I made this thread because I thought it's be a great idea, some didn't, they have their own points and I made my own, this is a discussion. HERE COMES FEWEH THAT FINDS IT FUNNY AND INSULTIVE.
I am done, honestly. I will never speak to you unless you'll be handling an admin issue that I took part of or a message, a legitimate message about me, thank you.

Re: Playerbase representatives.
DENIED.
Here's the baseline: We let people get away with WAY more shit than most other servers, attitude-wise. But that's coming to an end. I mean, I literally talk to players who get banned sometimes for HOURS to sort things out (Ask youbar if you don't believe me).
But here's the thing. I'm done with that, and I'm done with dealing with attitudes. People have told me for WAY TOO LONG that the reason so many people are shitty players but still act SUPER ENTITLED is because I'm so lenient. So that ends. Expect an announcement soon.
You want a conversation about why your so close to a permaban? PM me like anyone who wants to talk to me does.
