Alien testing

Post by TeDGamer » 09 Jun 2016, 19:23

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Using alien corpses against the aliens by researching them and obtaining items that can be constructed from the parts.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
First, xenos will not fucking suicide (save the xenosgreytide) and run in like idiots. Because every death means more of a possibility for marines to improve their gear. Ill explain more later. At the same time, it makes them more patient so that they would upgrade the status ( elite or ancient ) that I've been hearing about before they rush in without a plan.

Second, it won't cause rounds to constantly be stagnated in a checkmate because you killed 100 xenos but still there's that one queen left. I hate having to find that one person who runs away delaying the next round, especially if there's a lot of people.

Third, makes research useful. I know Apophis has some general idea for alien stuff and probably fixing research so I'm just going to see if this suggestion can be constructive in what goes there.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
Okay, so you've killed a lot of aliens. What do you do with the corpses? Well, right now, a researcher can "dissect' them with the auto-autospy knife, but the materials don't add much to research. (in that, it does nothing. 10 origin tech but nothing happens, level doesn't go up or anything)

Well, why not make it similar to X-Com, which is where I got the idea from. We can use the bodies against them.

First, researching the aliens should grant us access to new technologies. In X-com, researching aliens somehow gave bonuses to damage (probably because they found a weak part). Well, if you have a TON of the same alien corpses, after enough research, I'm sure you can find weak parts or even bullets that should be "mainly effective" against that specific alien.

Second, facehuggers decay at the moment over time. Why not have it happen for the other aliens too? Should clean up the map a bit and actually get the marines to bring those corpses back. Of course, for them to maintain the corpses, they would need a special container that research should start off with to collect 'specimens'.
They can also make bigger containers but that would require glass and probably sufficient alien biomass to coat the container.

Or even, eventually, you killed enough aliens, you have tons of parts...why not use the aliens against themselves? That chitin armor seems useful. Right now, we can remove it from their body, why not make it into armor? That's a lot of blood vials, why not make a chemistry drink that when drunk, it can make it so that the stun time of spitters are slightly less. Of course, these would require quite a bit of alien parts. Those eyes, they are very useful, why not use them to make a NV membrane goggle or even have their vision (this is extremely OP and should require a TON of eyes or something so only a few can be made in rounds if at all)

Of course there will be balancing issues, but I'm sure this can be something that can be tweaked over time.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):

Certain alien parts once dissected will create biomass which can be placed into the protolathe or even a mid-game xenos-tech creation machine (needs to be created through researching a chip and then needs to be constructed like an autolathe) that accepts alien biomass as it's resource.

The container thing could be added to the protolathe or auto-lathe (at least the small ones for facehuggers and tier 1s). Mid-game xenos-tech creation machine for containers for higher tiers.

Have the chitin that chops off be added to marine armor ( but reduce it to 1 per alien, 2 per alien is a bit much) or even their helm, adding a bit more defense or for the helm, making it so that it requires a few facehuggers to scratch it. Of course, you need the researcher to produce the chitin since he's the one with the knife ( might want to add one more researcher since cloning needs a lot of help sometimes ).

Being able to produce anti-specific aliens ammo can be done by having research create a blueprint (requires a certain tech level) that cargo has to ship off. Once shipped off, it can unlock the bullets for supplies (Yes, M.O.T.H.E.R. is that fast at producing goods). They're effective against the tiers and normal against other aliens. GOing to go with pulse rifle ammo types since that's the main weapon of marines.

The alien serum can be made as though it's a genetic mutation that allows for less stun time. Need a DNA machine for this if this ever comes back. Just get rid of the other genetic superpowers ( or make them unlock at FFF only which is near impossible to do but if they do it, congratulate them with a ban for using the DNA machine for superpowers). Alien serums don't have to be limited to one thing, just make it so marines can actually fight back against the aliens a bit better. (If you're cloned and given clone-fix, say goodbye to your advantage)

Let me know what your ideas are!

By the way the reason research currently does nothing is because it's not fully implemented and also basically what you said above is the premise on what wil lbe implemented later down the line when the research update has beeen fully implemented.

So until then you'll have to be patient :)

....You know this has already been planned? Like, all of it. Look at the development roadmap in announcements, look for Research Update. That's basically all of what you've suggested and more.
