Emergency redlight

Post by Sarah_U. » 17 Jun 2016, 14:49

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Emergency lights in key possitions that lights up if power goes out inside the area.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
This would allows for an additional source of light and potentially some minor additional fear to be produced by giving only some small glimpses of red-tinted lights at places.
Furthermore, emergency lightning is a thing and it've always been, even in the alien movies. Thus it'll improve on the realism.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
- Emergency lights simply awaits power to go off within the grid they're on.
- If the power runs out, they turn on and stays untill it returns.
- They run on standard(+) batteries that can be changed or removed potentially.
- They could potentially take two hits to break rather than one due to their metal casing, or literally require acid.
(If done, make them a 3-4 tile light max to balance?)

If repair for them is implemented, they need welding and a new lightbulb.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
Use the already implemented power grid system for checking if they need to run or not.
Use a light frame code and modify it a lil'.
Turn the light red if that meets your fancy.

Assuming this caused lag in pre-alpha.

And it was an eye sore....naaahhh.

But hey,it's an okay idea.

Couldn't you use a very transparent / regular source of light with only an inch of red to it? It'd still look red (Especially in the dark) and probably hurt your eyes less.
I'm not in for a blood tint, I'm in for a realistic feeling to it and if it's laggy then-- Well we know what then, denie it if everyone crash out due to it XD

Yeah, but that was a flashing red light and I hated it too. A solid red light would be pretty dope, especially if we get the lighting system promised.

Im sure it wont be a problem to add few unbreakable lights everywhere with 1 full and half-lit 3 tile range, moreover its very realistic both in terms of reality and movies, +1

would be nice to have a backup source of light to help see better in the dark, since aliens love slashing out the wires when given the chance.

I just imagine the marines gathered around the emergency light, freaking out as they're short on vision and trying to fight off the hive rushing them or hiding in the dark and only see'ing red, shadowy glimpses...

Spooky scenery~
