Hey guys, Stelfy here to talk about survivor problems!
The last thing I heard about getting some survivor changes was when Abbysth was talking about the new xeno updates that are currently in effect today. Now that she has quit or something (I don't know). What I am curious about is that if there is going to be still any more changes coming for survivors that can help them survive.
The reason why I am starting this discussion is because whenever I personally have become a survivor, it has become really repetitive. I've tried many different options with the new xeno updates and what I have found is that it is very difficult to do anything at the start of the round when marines are not present. The reason being is because, in my experience, is that xenos are harder to kill at early times because runners and hunters can upgrade, and become more tanky.
The first method I tried when I played survivor is that I attempt to build a fort in engie or in the jungle. This usually almost always fails now since spitters and sentinels can just spit spam you until they can hug you.
The second method I have done if do the generic run around and try to not get caught. This is an okay method since you can catch aliens by surprise, but usually you die a horrible death.
The ONLY method I have seen work mostly every time, is the ability to hide in closets or lockers and wait till marines show up, and decide if you want to become good or evil. Usually being friendly to marines and heading up to the shuttle is the only way to survive, since being evil sucks because the marines usually lose the planet.
Basically, why I made this discussion is to ask you all what you would want to change of being a survivor and grant survivors a bit more living time while playing their role, thanks for reading these experiences I have had as survivor with these new updates, and I hope you can share your insights or experiences with this new update as survivor and maybe how to survive a bit more fun.
Will there be any sort of changes to survivor soon?

You forgot the method where you sneakily survive being carried away and RP so xenos just stop bothering since you're already infected ;D
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

I believe apop WILL be making adjustements for survivors when he gets the time, making it less viable for xenos to meta-rush survivors.

I normally survive by going into the Nexus, raiding the cargo bay for either a toolbox or stacks of metal, hopefully both, and just GIRDERSPAM GIRDERSPAM GIRDERSPAM GIRDERSPAM.
In fact, as a survivor, I find myself more often being killed by Marines, because apparently roleplaying as a distraught, terrified survivor obviously warrants "You're annoying, I'll just kill you." And also those lovely times where the marines dragged me out of my safe fortress and into the line of fire of their sentry guns, despite me saying "No, that sentry gun will probably shoot me. Oh god, it's aiming at m- FUCK IT SHOT ME!"

I thought the point of survivor was that your death is nearly inevitable.
At this point, FOB is an actual buzzword.

Being survivor is kinda easy realy, you just need to team up with the other survivors and hopefully no xenos will bother you until you get those sweet welding helmets, after that is gg, go in the crashed ship, build that lovely fort you always wanted, be a slave from the Yautjas, or if you want to be a bad survivor hide in the locker until the marines come for you and do boring jobs like being an engineer or medic, survivor is basically SURVIVING in the damn planet, not in sulaco, you can be the most deadly human being in the planet because you don't have any objectives and don't need to go with marines, its your planet, your choices

The whole concept of survivors in the game is fundamentally broken. So your RP and gameplay goal is to survive until the marines arrive to, ideally, inform them of the alien menace. But what are the marines allowed to do with that knowledge? Aside from broadcasting that they're allowed to shoot aliens on sight, they aren't allowed to actually attack the aliens without admins getting mad and accusing the marines of meta rushing. It's just dumb in general.

Re: Will there be any sort of changes to survivor soon?
I myself kinda wish that there would be a little more enforcement in how a survivor can teach the marines about the aliens.
When I get lucky as a survivor and survive long enough to board the Sulico, I try my best to RP with what I got (outfit, notes, on spawn info) without going "the aliens infect with huggers" and whathaveyou ASAP. Hell, I had times where despite being allowed to tell everything, I never gave them any useful information at all, just my story as I would have imagined it.
In a sense, survivors are supposed to be a reward for the marines who are able to save them, being able to provide them with valuable intel that'll allow the marines to do more than they normally would be allowed to. But on the other hand, sometimes I think people forget just how important survivors are RP wise, how they can help make otherwise boring jobs [such as the MPs and MTs] all the more interesting by sharing your story with those players over a coffee. Hell, most survivors, after telling the marines of what they know, end up joining the marine forces as marines themselves, which seems horribly OOC, considering they just survived a NIGHTMARE made real. After the hell you went through, why would anyone want to go back and fight it?
In some cases, it is logical, but a priest or janitor suddenly joining the marines AS a marine is pretty messed up story wise.. That is why I very rarely, if ever, join the army upon being rescued, and simply bugger about the capital ship if I haven't found any jobs fitting of my survivor, talking to those who have the time to talk.

Well, I usually survive by getting to engineering with my MAR and get those welding helmets. After that I go to the ancient temple and well, boom
