Revamped Hunter Games

Post by forwardslashN » 29 Jun 2016, 14:03

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): I want to change HG from a random murder/griefest that it is today, into something more like the Predators movie. This would go along with some CQC changes I want to make in the future, so this entire suggestion is more long-term than it is something right now, in the present. And just to be clear here, I am not suggesting a new game mode so I don't autodeny myself. I am suggesting change to a current game mode.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): There has been some outcry when HG was first implemented that it doesn't fit the mood of the server, where it isn't about roleplay but straight up killing. And while it does provide a sense of relief, it isn't very flavorful, nor is it really balanced. I think changing up these specific details would make it more interesting for a lot of people, myself included.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): First, a new map. We all like the planet and stuff, but HG could benefit from a unique map that is partially randomly generated. It would likely still take place in a jungle-like environment, but with far less civilization about, and have a more game-reserve feel. More crashed ships, more dead bodies with equipment, greater sense of exploration. Bigger, and with more areas to explore (and less machinery to process, and less lag). Second, the goals of the game mode would remain: stay alive. There would be an hour time limit, and if you are left standing by that point, the game mode simply ends--but there's a catch. Third, there would be unique goals to accomplish during the round (some of which would be announced at round start), and if you complete one of them, you may be tagged as a winner. One of the goals could be to hijack a predator ship and escape. Another goal could be to retrieve a specific item on the map. Or to control a certain territory. You get the idea. All of these would bring you glory, and the one with the most glory at the end of the round will be the victor. You can declare alliances, kill other players to prevent them from attaining glory, or you may simply camp out in the jungle for an hour if you so wish. You don't need to kill at all, so what you do is up to you. Fourth, there would be actual predators (and if there are no predators, the game would spawn hellhounds every so often), actively hunting worthy prey. But they would still be bound by honor rules, just as predators are now. That's about it in broad strokes.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Coding. You know that I know that you know that I know coding.

+1, Predators was the best movie in the series :^)

I really do enjoy the hunting reserve idea. Plus it'll give predators an excuse to wear a hat and use their sniper rifle.

+1: Im am not a very "robust" player in the combat sense and im usually averse to killing people directly. Having a way to win the hunger games other than just brute force would be much appreciated. I like the idea of the combat and trying to survive the current Hunter Games brings, but some extra brain options for people like me would be great as well! Plus seeing a map more designed for the 40+ish combatants would be good as opposed to the current colony drop point. Random generation is always nice to spice up the short round. Alliances would need to be kept in check somehow, maybe splitting the glory points or limiting the number of allies, or both.

...

But seriously, does uh, anyone know the way out?!

NEUTRAL: As a whole I'm mixed about HG. I like it to some degree, but I also dislike the rushed aspect of it. Your changes would also affect the fact APOP use it for updates where he just throw it in expecting it to take at most thirty minutes so... But overall it's a well thought idea and I'm leaning for +1. I'm sure people would still enjoy waiting for the update since they'd have randomized chances to be spawned-- Ah fuck it, +1, people will get less salty and interact more so they'll pass time easely with it.
Least well-written text ever!

Small detail though, add a verb or something to auto-end the round like the escape shuttles prematurely ending it. If the admins gotta stop it then it'll be nice to have the option for game control. Just put a proper timer or something to make sure people don't feel cheated.
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

So, a more full-on jungle, with the occasional crashed ship and/or dead body with equipment?

If it's bigger than the current one, and has lots of twists, turns, sneaky bits, then have yerself a big ass +1.

+1 but I do call bullshit on the idea that you can't roleplay in the current iteration HG, yes you are likely to die if you try something roleplay like but that just the risk. Hell I think every single time I have played I generally formed a party of people I generally saved that round however I hope with this change normal players can also be picked as a pred (only for this game mode of course)

Eh, gamemode suggestion. Nope, denied, sorry, read the sticky.

When the wind whips past your ears
Will you stand when the weight is upon you
Or will you go to your knees in fear?

Are you going to continue this or is this on hold until other things get worked out?
