Bridge of the USS Sulaco
Due to how we are gaining actual topics that can improve a players gameplay in the USCM section, might as well add this here.
Right, so this thread will be about what marine players would like to see the command staff do more often or stop completely.Generally just pop down your ideas or thoughts on what your ideal command staff would do (which is possible).
Hopefully this thread will be able to help get more players involved in playing command roles, and help improve current players with the command staff roles.
For instance a few of my tips would be:
1) Try to warn the medical staff as to when a shuttle or dropod is coming up to the Sulaco with injured.
2)Try and keep in contact with your assigned squad(s) and listen to their demands, I.e shuttle calls, a request for backup, and supply drops etc.

I'm pretty new to command, but I think it's a good idea to regularly
1) Get your assigned squad to sound off so you know how many are active and listening.
2) Check your squad monitor regularly to update them on new arrivals or let them know if anyone vanished.

Re: Bridge of the USS Sulaco
Here's some good Rules:
1) Don't go SSD because "There is nothing to do".
2) Add DETAILED and GRAMMATICALLY CORRECT orders to your assigned squad's Monitor.
3) Stay at your monitor. Only leave it for coffee breaks(Preferably when you Squad is doing well) or emergencies.
4) DON'T CHOOSE BRIDGE STAFF IF YOU'RE NEW TO THE SERVER.
5) Keep an eye on your fellow bridge staff. If you are undermanned or other officers go SDD it is your duty to monitor their squads. This may be tiresome but it is your duty to keep the ground forces alive.
It is also a good idea to get a run down on each of the squads before Briefing to give the CO and idea of which squad would best fit each role.

If the SL fails to tells their squad where they are at all times tell them yourself instead.
At this point, FOB is an actual buzzword.

Re: Bridge of the USS Sulaco
Something I've learned the few times I've been RNG'd to be CO;
1. Tell your BO's IMMEDIATELY what squads to take control of, find out if you have any Engineers and convince them to start the SM, and start planning a briefing as soon as possible, inform you'r BO'S on the briefing before you give it, also have them set squad orders to something akin to "get dressed, get your shit from RO and get your ass to briefing."
2. When Moral is low, or Telecoms are down, Grab a shotgun, cigar, and a megaphone, don't forget to don your stylish white and blue Beret. If you show up during an FOB assault, you likely will, use your megaphone to shout encouraging orders, IE; "HOLD THE LINE MARINES" Or, "PUSH THEM BACK!" And when you do push them back, because you will, standing side by side with your fellow marines pumping slugs into that crusher you just killed, Because Marines tend to follow orders when you're helping complete the objective of the mission, shotgun in hand. Also, leading a charge is almost a guaranteed Marine Major.... Every time I've lead a charge that was well timed (Every time) It's resulted in a followup mopping up of the few remaining Xenos.
Conclusion, Be a shotgun wielding badass and follow your Marines to the surface, as long as you have a XO.

CO as Bill Carson
4 graytides as BOs
And Natalie 'Snow' Reyes as the XO trying to hold it all together.
You thought you knew comedy. But it's time to make a discovery.

A command that talks too much is better than a command staff that talks too little.

Re: Bridge of the USS Sulaco
When I go CO, I always find it a good idea to grab some paper and a pen and prepare the speech ahead of time before briefing. That way, I can easily copy and paste into my megaphone and make briefing go by MUCH faster, instead of wasting my time having to think up my battleplan on the fly.
It is also a good idea, in my opinion, to not leave the pod and dropship on the ground too long.. Marines are always coming in, so you gotta keep the flow moving. The sooner you return the droppod/ship, the faster marines can deploy.
And also, never, EVER give marines less than 10 minutes... Ever... Because it takes time to prepare, and rushing marines is NEVER a good idea.
As for BOs, try your best to communicate both with the commander and the squad you watch over. Sitting there silently isn't going to help much. And while you are at it, can you at least TRY to make the objectives a little more interesting? I don't need a novel, but just writing "Guard FoB" or "Get power on" are rather dull, undetailed objectives.. I prefer at least a little flavor, you know?

The past two times I've been commander, I've never had an XO so I couldn't go down there and rambo with my troops. Oh well.AishaKitty wrote:Something I've learned the few times I've been RNG'd to be CO;

Re: Bridge of the USS Sulaco
Going to be commander, eh? Aren't you brave? I'll give you some of my advice too.
1. Making announcements has the benefit of being heard by all marines regardless of the status of T-Comms, so use that for the more important orders like when you are trying to command your entire force en mass.
2. Keep track of your marines using the overwatch consoles. What you can do is go to the squad monitor to see the general status of your marines and their locations.
3. If you have BOs, use them to manage the squads while you go and do things, like harass the CL or fix the engine when engineering isn't doing their job. (Don't actually harass the CL, unless you have evidence.)

Re: Bridge of the USS Sulaco
To be honest, depending on the situation, it might be better to keep the XO and CO on board regardless. You don't always have enough BOs, and the commander can only do so much on his own. Having some extra hands on deck makes life easier and allows them to focus more instead of feel overwhelmed.Mech__Warrior wrote:
