Iron Bears Not 100% Antagonistc
Summary: Change the Iron Bears objectives to be randomly generated, so there's not a 100% chance they spawn with the antagonist objective to seize the ship and fight the American soldiers.
Benefits: Right now with the Bears you have a annoying scenario where they're guaranteed to be antagonist, yet everyone has to play dumb to their intentions. This is in addition to times where some Marines may meta their true objective and attack them on site.
My proposal means with the Iron Bears you're not always guaranteed to be fighting the Bears. They may genuinely be on a mission of mercy, or maybe simply their objectives are less overt such as to steal USMC weapons, which would not result in them killing Marines.
This would at least mean there's a chance the Marines will have a strong ERT on their side, and the Marines can't just start shooting a possible ally. But it also allows Marines to be distrustful of them in a more legit way since the Iron Bears are Russians and thus not on good terms with the USMC.

+1 makes more sense. Give the leader the antag objective something along the lines of "You've been tasked with taking over the ship. Take care of this however you like"

Was the commander in one round with Iron Bears. Tried to play nice. Got yelled at in deadchat at for not shooting them the moment they stepped out of the pod.

Something like "Steal commander's smartgun" would be cool.

With the marine winrate what it is, changing the odds of a helpful or neutral ERT is probably a good thing for balance.coroneljones wrote:-1

With the pizza and xeno ERT you at least don't have to put on a facade as to their intentions.

Re: Iron Bears Not 100% Antagonistc
Hostile Iron Bears usually means the marines will lose due to the immense disruption it causes; the Iron Bears probably won't succeed, but they'll cause so much disorder and mayhem that the aliens end up winning, especially since Marines rarely use killchems to put them down in short order.
That said, making them friendly a % of the time would prevent meta on the Marine side, where they always anticipate the Iron Bears being hostile.

Re: Iron Bears Not 100% Antagonistc
Before ERTs got reworked, the stance of the Iron Bears was that they could do whatever they wanted, including being completely hostile to the marines. It was much better before, since you could get some neat scenarios in play, but now it's just "go in, kill them all". Keep in mind, the bears are just a small team of 5 people against 20+ marines, not including MP and command, so their stance is VERY weak right now.
+1 for making them the "wildcard" of the ERTs instead of "one of the risks".

this will also stop meta-rines from going like " oh fuck there's cheeki's aboard, FIRE AT WILL!"
all 'round fixes alot of that, and gives ert some oppertunity to be much more flexible and fun for everyone involved.

It would also be a boon for the Iron Bears since they would have more room to move around even if they do have a 'capture ship' objective since now they can build trust with the Marines.

Re: Iron Bears Not 100% Antagonistc
In our lore, the Iron Bears belong to the USSR. So it makes sense (in our version of the canon) for them to be unconditionally hostile.
I'd rather have the UPP (instead of the USSR) and have the Iron Bears be mercenaries instead of soldiers, but Apop has been pretty clear that's the direction we're going.

Re: Iron Bears Not 100% Antagonistc
From the lore on the wiki it stats that the USMC and USSR enjoy a uneasy truce, on Earth at least. I think having a 100% antag rate is a bad thing. Having even only a 25% chance of the Iron Bears being non-hostile will be sufficent to throw a air of misdirection as the Marines know there's still a chance they may not be hostile.
If the USMC and Iron Bears are hostile on Earth then why would the Sulaco point defence not just shoot down the USSR ship on sight?

I'm closing this thread unless apop wants to say something. Though I agree with Joshuu.SecretStamos (Joshuu) wrote:In our lore, the Iron Bears belong to the USSR. So it makes sense (in our version of the canon) for them to be unconditionally hostile.

What about giving them objectives that makes them antag, but delays the time on which they'll start being hostile ;D
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.
