Job-ban: Eric Lorin (Doctor & CMO)

Post by Sif » 12 Jul 2016, 04:25

Your Byond ID: Sif01

Character Name: Eric Lorin

Type Of Ban (Job-ban, Timed Ban, Permaban): Job-ban

Admin who banned you (if known): Freemysoul

Total Ban Duration: Permanent

Remaining Duration: Permanent

What other servers do you play on? Aurora, Paradise (used to before it became a Brazilian server)

Are you now or have you been banned on any of them? I have not been banned from any of them.

Reason for ban (If you have a Permaban, it should be the EXACT MESSAGE YOU GET WHEN YOU LOGIN with the Error code that looks like this: X##XXX##. If you do not provide this EXACTLY you can't be unbanned): Breach of the Sixth Doctor/CMO rule.

Link to previous appeals for the same ban (if applicable): N/A

Your appeal, including evidence (screenshots, etc):

My character throughout the round was doing his job both on the surface and on the ship, when he was on the surface he got attacked multiple times. He had his face ripped off and was able to limp his sorry ass to the shuttle and get back to the ship and get healed. By the time my character was able to do his duties again the ship was being overrun by Xenos and the Medbay itself was one of the first targets. My character was out of nearly every medicine and medical tools available to him to be of any use.

So as not to be a waste of space after being attacked AGAIN on the ship he used the shotgun he was given by a Marine from the surface to fight off the Xenos so that he and the Marines could possibly escape with their lives. While I was fighting for my life I was being PMed by the Moderator in question several times while trying to fend off Xenos that were rushing our position. My Doctor has not been a frequent combat medic or anything along those lines, he's picked up guns only when he was out of supplies and had to help his fellow humans try and survive the Xeno onslaught.

I feel this rule is arbitrary and was probably made for the mouthbreathers who murdered each other over a stupid "mutiny" a few hours before in the round. We lost atleast six Marines, two bridge staff, and three MPs to that mess. I try not to be hostile anymore as I have gotten older but I cannot sympathize at all with a rule like this as it negates the value of any serious roleplay. If a character is constantly fighting for his life he should not be expected to listen to some stupid rule that an IC rule that was made for the purposes of keeping Doctors where they belong when not threatened. I have no problem with the rule in terms of keeping Doctors from carrying around shotguns, Pulse rifles, and other heavy weaponry when not defending themselves or their patients. But if you expect a human being to just pass up heavy weaponry when trying to flee or defend themselves then you obviously are not a human being. You're a meat popsicle, as Bruce Willis said.

This rule was used unfairly against me for whatever reason the Moderator felt to enforce it. He had a choice and he felt that arbitrary rules superseded roleplay which is a slippery slope. The roleplay of others should not be punished because of the actions of the those that do not care about the server or the setting in of itself.

I was a bystander to watching this one.

The marine's were getting bumrushed, medbay was one of the first places to get hit and evacutated, and the entire crew of the Sulaco had their backs to the wall. Granted, the rule, to quote it again: If you are unarmed and there is a rifle on the ground, you may pick it up and fire it at an alien who is IMMEDIATLY THREATENING YOUR LIFE. Once the alien is gone, you must drop the weapon and leave the area. Your job is MEDICAL not combat, fighting on the front-lines will result in a job-ban.

I must admit, the rule in itself feels poorly thought out. It's quite literally telling crew members of a USCMC military vessel to not take up arms against an active threat, unless it's charging you, which as a doctor means you're pretty much already dead.

I feel as if it was implemented to stop doctors from dropping everything from medbay, grabbing arms, and leaving people bleeding out in medical as they go out and die themselves. Which makes sense.

But I'd like to think that it shouldn't apply to this situation, as medical was already effectively classified as FUBAR, so this doctor was simply helping the fight with the already very limited amount of marines.

Anywho, I completely support removing the jobban.

...maybe we should re-think that rule slightly, too.

If I had any supplies that were useful to the situation at hand I would have given the heavy guns and ammo away, at that time all I had left was anti-tox and kelotane. Nobody was being burned alive and I had two anti-tox autoinjectors left. I used my last two advanced trauma bandages on a Marine that basically died anyways.

Personally I am all for lifted this JB, However it isn't simple as oh I ran out of supplies, It's time help defend the remaining crew. I can understand from your POV but that rule is IN place for a reason, Your CIVILIANS not Soldiers, your not like rest of the Sulaco crew who are trained military personnel. That is the reason behind Rules 5 and 6.

Being unable to show any flex whatsoever shows a real lack of understanding as to what roleplay is in my opinion.

Moderators are THERE to enforce the rules, Not let them be flexed. Only admins can and ABLE to overlook a rule. You broke a rule nuff said.

Just curious how long that takes? I tried joining just a few hours ago and it was still listed as banned. I joined half an hour ago and it was still banned.
