Alien Queen Eggsack

Post by Sarah_U. » 19 Jul 2016, 02:16

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Allow for the queen to grow an eggsack, and discard it if deemed necessary.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
It'll fit to the lore, bring new mechanics and generally be interesting both for roleplay and being new.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
The queen uses a verb to grow the eggsack, after some time (30 seconds?) the sack is grown and lays down an egg upon a periodic timer (3 to 5 seconds, lower with upgrade?)
(OPTIONAL: With this suggestion, the eggsack could lay eggs every [X] seconds when the ground is clean.)
(OPTIONAL: Allow for 50% slower (current) movement for movement so the queen can deploy eggs herself on clean tiles.)

The eggsack has its own health and regeneration and upgrades with the queen. It doesn't deflect bullets at all. It lays eggs either with previous methods (On tile opposite to the queen?) or on all 4 sides.
(OPTIONAL: The queen is buffed without it?)

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
[N/A]

SIDENOTE: It's possibly a duplicate, but the idea as a whole is different from the 'egg-morphing' idea.
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

I've liked this idea for a while, because deploying a queen in combat tends to be a high risk, high reward play, and if done too aggressively prevents the protracted ground war necessary to deplete marine numbers, while also crippling the hive if she dies.

The problem is that queen attracts the same shits who like going CO, and unlike CO, xenos don't have a choice but to obey. So if she orders a cripplingly stupid frontal assault 30 minutes in, xenos have to wait until she dies to start playing intelligently again. Sometimes the same shit queen spawns as a larva and evolves again, and you gotta deal with the same shit a second time.

If the queen was slow/immobile and had to direct things that way I think we'd have less rambo queens.

Honestly, I think the queen is just fine laying eggs on her own. Having an autolayer would just promote laziness. That, and marines already have to deal with dozens upon dozens of eggs room after room as is.
Sometimes, bravery comes from the most unlikely sources.

One thing I'm uncertain of, are you suggesting a new object that follows the queen and slows her down or a change to the queen?

Both. If you read the suggestion carefully, the queen actually creates it and it follows her around afterward or if the linked suggestion is accepted, it'd require her to stay static while other xenos attend to the eggs.

+1, but to do this we'll also need to give Drones the ability to move eggs around, or else the space around the Queen will be filled up mighty fast.

Or we'll have ridiculous stacks of eggs on tiles. Either or.

. . . I'm fine with a 500 egg tile... Just hard on proc when you kill it :^)
Seriously though, topic links to the other suggestion for a method to move eggs. ANYONE could do it in that instance much like AvP: Extinction.

This place would be so much better if marines were replaced with cyborgs, atleast those would follow orders. assuming there was a rule forcing them to do so...

I feel this would have to come with major mechanic changes and also a lot of players wouldn't want to play an immobile character.

Considering the queen doesn't have fancy gadgets and computers to kill time with like command staff.

This might also encourage more dedicated "egg chamber" instead of the typical "eggs scattered everywhere" we see currently.

Overrall not sure how feasible it is but I like it so +1

I personally would like to see this go in, There should be two diffrent modes for the queen, supportive and aggresive. Having the queen be able to lay eggs without having any drawbacks promotes having the queen always at the front lines, because theres no drawback to it. And im not saying this with any bias, theres no reason to keep your queen at the nest instead of right behind the front lines. Keeping her at the nest means you dont have close control over your xenos, lack of screechs, and your in the base by your lonesome.

+1, I like how it promotes a queen to act like an actual alien queen. Not risking her own hide for a couple of hosts, and instead commanding from the backline. Mind you, queen would now need some way to monitor her troops, since there's no way she's going to the front like that. Not sure how feasible it is to actually put in, but it'd be pretty nice to see a little bit of a change from how queen is normally played.
I play Aria Vivici. I think people like me. I'm not sure why.

Bump.

I'd love to see this ingame but at the same time like the others have said, drones or other xenos should be able to move them around. Dunno if that is a thing in the lore but it might make sense as to how an egg got onboard the Sulaco in the movies since the queen didn't have time to lay any.

I made this awhile ago. viewtopic.php?f=59&t=6535

Unsure which is better but its the same principle, both are solid and lore-accurate ideas.

I think the static eggsack would make more sense. While the Queen's attached to the eggsack, maybe make her like an AI, able to see through the eyes of her children and generally acting as a hivemind anchor?

Would be pretty cool if this was combined with the hive management interface

I'm into it, I mean it's very relevant to the lore, it's a cool new sprite and it (hopefully) is gonna stop Queens running out and attacking instead of laying eggs and expanding the hive, +1 from me
