Crusher becomes blind while charging

Summary:
During A Crushers charge, the crusher gains the Blind overlay view over their character


Benefits:
I'm thinking that having the crusher have the temporary blindness (can only see in a 3x3 area) when they charge would be a pretty unique nerf to the crusher without reducing any of its strengths. You want the crusher to be this indomitable wall of armor, but in some ways, a small nerf might be needed. Colonial Marines is also in a unique position to give people "blindness" without it being too debilitating, with players able to see in a 3x3 area instead of a completely black screen. This gives the crusher some sort of situational awareness to where hes going and when he needs to stop.



Now, i found this neat idea while looking through the Aliens Wiki for more info about the crusher http://avp.wikia.com/wiki/Crusher. It seems the crusher emulates most other creatures in that it tries to shield its eyes to prevent them from being damaged when facing danger. (I remember reading that sharks also do this when they move to attack prey). I figure, the crusher is a pretty decently powered alien, maybe a small nerf wouldnt hurt. But trying to reduce the armor or health or speed or "crushiness" of the crusher sounds like too much in the wrong direction, you want them to be these big alien tanks. Giving them a unique effect would be a pretty nice way to give the crusher a small balance point without being too insane.

Maybe use the blindness proc in byond over the crusher when they move to charge?

Totally agree with you, crushers are tele-missiles right now, they can rush into you and can even change the way they're going while charging +1

This is a neat idea, but I think they should get tunnel vision, rather then a small 3x3. Would make some sense.

At this point I'm neutral on the suggestion, as this constitutes a pretty massive crusher nerf and makes a number of advanced crusher techniques unreliable.

I would like to point out that crushers cannot change direction while charging, as retaining movespeed without momentum is not the same thing at all.

When I play crusher, I spend 75% of the game charging, and being unable to see while charging would severely impact my ability to play.

Generally, the perception is that crushers are a lot more powerful than they are. Crushers counter bullets and HE grenades/rockets, and for many marines don't use anything else, so they assume crushers are invincible when in reality they're trying to drown a fish.

At this point I've made an advanced crusher guide and a guide to kill crushers, and have a good grasp on what they can do.

I will certainly be able to adapt if this suggestion was implemented, but I believe many other players would find crusher much more difficult to play, and given that crushers have been dying right and left I'm hesitant to advocate a nerf, though in the right hands I know crusher is devastating.

I feel like a good way to balance the not seeing would be still have the pheromone xray vision of people. So a crusher could "see" people and if they are near or far, so he could time out his stomp ability without being hindered. I dont know if that can be implemented in the code though, if blindness covers everything or if you could limit it to only terrain.

Along with this, I feel like crushers should be able to see a few tiles in front of them, as I doubt the crusher can still see a bit of what is in front of him while it's charging. I am not sure if this is possible, but if it is, it'd be neat.

Strange, i kinda see some crushers doing some drifts like damn cars to hit people, while its funny it dificult things for marines since they can even stun, sorry for the error then

They can turn and maintain movespeed but would have to stomp to knock people down. In my guide I call the technique "Curving"

A charging crusher wouldn't be able to ram you (which is often fatal) unless you are directly in front of them.

Honestly? they somewhat fine as it is, just need to get some courage and get those sadars and shoot them with phosphorous
