Your_Byond_ID - Moderator Application

Post by Russell-454 » 23 Jul 2016, 11:49

Byond ID: Russell454

Colonial Marines Character: Soph 'Supermatter' Rifler

Age: 18

Gender: male

Timezone: GMT (Uk)

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate? I will be avalible a for a few hours per day minimum, which may go down slightly when I return to college in September

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)? I do, back when Arma 2 Takistan life was a big thing, I used to help out with the equivalent of A-helps at the time (which is where someone would come and complain to you in the staff channel of teamspeak. You had to evaluate both sides and come to a conclusion which would keep both sides happy. I have also done various admin roles in the GMOD community, but those were more...relaxed?

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers? I did not.

What other servers do you play on? I used to play a bit of Paradise before hand, but quickly got bored of the many rounds where sweet f-a would happen, and paperwork simulator. Found Colonial Marines, and have not looked back...Hell I cant even play on standard servers anymore.

What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM? Paradise - and thats it. Hippie doesnt really interest me, and a few of the other servers I have looked at just seem a bit...meh.

Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before? No, I have not.

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where? No, I am not.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines? No sir, the closest I got to a ban is when I blew up the SM engine, but it was not followed through as the admin team realised it was just because I am stupid.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, where and When (roughly)? Jesus, uh dont know if you want to know about this, but when I was 15 I got perma'd on a TTT server for RDM'ing...that is the only real ban I have had.

Are you familiar with Slack (It's use is required)? Yeah, sometimes you dont need to act like you have a rod up your arse, and give people a second chance. Of course we could just ban people the second they did something wrong, but they could fuck things up real quick, and make the playerbase HATE the staff. Of course, if its someone who consistently breaks the rules, you might be less inclined to let him off, rather than a first time offender.

Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.

1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.

Do not interfere, its an IC issue, and should be handled by the MP's and similar staff. However, it would be slightly different if he was murder-boning like a champ. If he was killing people, that should be considered as griefing and the player should be messaged to find out what/why he is doing what he is, and if he gives a justifiable reason (I cant think of one off of the top of my head) then possibly let him off. However, if he is ignoring your bwoinks, or gives the shittest reason ever, a temp-ban may be appropriate, as well as some a-heals.

2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.

Depends on how it was caused. If it was an intentional breach /WITH/ permission from the admins, or caused by a preds gauntlet, it could be left and the people who were killed have to stay dead. Otherwise the breach is sealed by an admin, and then depending on the situation the people harmed by the breach may have to stay dead, or could get ahealed (although very unlikely)

3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.

You are NEVER able to give out the nuke codes without the express permission from the head of staff. It would be incredibly dickish, to just hand out the codes and punish the Xeno players for doing well. (you have to remember, it is a game at the end of the day, and fucking over the Xenos for almost no reason is bad form). You could however, respond with a bio-scan report from mother, stating the numbers in a command announcement whilst refusing the codes.

4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.

I guess send the player a message asking why he did what he did, and listen to the reason he gave. If he claimed it was an accident or something similar, you could explain to him how it is not an okay thing to do, and add it to his player notes. Again, if you had the power you could a-heal the people harmed by the nade, and leave the (probably minimal) damage caused by such a weapon for the MTs to fix. You should also talk to the researcher about being careful with who he hands out those kinds of weapons to, and remind him that if something more serious happened then he can be held responsible.

5. A played is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.

Send him a message in a calm and polite tone reminding him what the A-help system is for, and kindly ask him to stop sending such messages. If he continues, you can remind him once more, and warn him that if he continues that you are able to take action. Again, if he continues to be a massive cunt, you could give him a temp ban, with the reasons that he was continually asked to stop abusing Ahelp, and he did not.

6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.

Calmly inform the player that they change their name, informing them they are breaking the character naming rules on the server. If you had access to such a command, you could request what they would like their name changed to, and then change it for them for the rest of the round.

6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, noone has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.

Re-explain to them how it breaks the rules, and why those rules are in place. They must remember that this is a medium RP server, and you are ruining play for others if you are running around as a marine called "Shitty McCuntface". I know people who have been banned for less (bunny slippers ;) )

7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.

Remind them that they are a doctor, and they are not supposed to be carrying weapons aboard the Sulaco unless they are being boarded, even then they are supposed to be sticking to sidearms only. Ask them nicely to drop the weapon they are carrying, and to return to the medbay to assist, as that is the job role is chosen. If they argued against this you could inform them that if they are unhappy with their job-role, they can always go to cryo to free up the slot for someone else, and they can join Xeno, or observe for the round.

8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.

Make them stop the surgery, no matter how far through they are. This is metagaming as a combat medic would not know how to perform surgery. Request that they take the wounded man for medevac, and that they can be treated by the doctors on the Sulaco. If they are unhappy, remind them that whist they are doing that, they are not helping the people who may be injured in their squad, and that they are taking away some gameplay for the medical staff onboard the Sulaco

9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?

M.O.T.H.E.R Report:

Planetary bioscan completed:
Unauthorised Lifesigns: 4

Command suggests an attack on the hostile forces - you outnumber them greatly. (or something along those lines)

10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.

End of round griefing is a bannable offense, send them a message informing them of this, and ask them to stop. Make sure that you check their information to make sure they are not a repeat offender. If they are, then a temp-ban may be suitable.

11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.

Again, its mostly harmless, at most you could ask them to stop via message, however this is really an IC issue, and should be treated as such.

12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.

This is griefing, as you are supposed to slowly escalate, allowing the other side to respond with a little more force. This could be sorted via an aheal for the party who was killed, and a warning (and arrest warrant) for the person who killed them. If its a repeat offender, a ban may be deserved.

Any additional information you'd like to add?

Nothing really, just cheers for giving me the chance to apply I guess?

Sorry to be that guy, but I'm thinking you're supposed to replace Your_Byond_ID with, well, your byond ID.

That being said, neutral, little known from what I see.
When the voice from the shadows calls you
When the wind whips past your ears
Will you stand when the weight is upon you
Or will you go to your knees in fear?

So basically the application was pretty weak.

1. Slack isn't a term, it's an application for communicating.

2. You drop instant 3 hour for end of round grief, it's shitty but it's standard protocol.

3. You're very new, only a couple days old forum account. I think you should get more forum activity, more playtime.

4. A couple hours moderating is decent, but if you're going to college, spending 30 minutes on the server really isn't helpful.

5. You haven't included specific hours for each ban.

Overall, it could be better. My advice is give it some time. -1.

Agreed, After thinking about it it definitely needs a redo, Ill wait for some time. Wrote this app with a gigantic headache. (I realised the slack thing after, and send the Co-host a message about it). Could you do me a favour and deny it, so I can re-do at a later date? (Let me know if you want it to be a week/month/whatever).
