USCM Records - Mya Miller
(Finally decided to make a dossier. I'll continue to revise it if I want to change/correct anything.)(Last update on 11/4/2016)
"So why'd you bring me in here anyway?" a female voice spoke, disturbing the rhythmic, relaxing hum of the Sulaco's machinery at work.
"We just wanted to get an... 'Update' of your profile. To see if anything has changed, you see." this time the voice was a man's. "We have to keep track of our employees, keep documented information of personnel for legal reasons, so on and so forth." a single camera in the room zoomed its lens in on the two figures who sat across from each other, a metal table between them.
"Okay, that makes sense, sure. What do you wanna' know?" the black-haired female inquired, raising a leg to cross it over the other.
"Basic information. I'll ask you a few questions, and you answer as best as you can." the man adjusted his glasses. At this point, the woman had begun to shake her leg. Whether it was out of impatience, or anxiety, he couldn't tell.
"What's your first and last name?"
"Mya Miller."
"Age?"
"Twenty-three."
"And you identify as..?"
Mya narrowed her blue eyes at him, "What the fuck do you think? Female." she snapped.
The man sighed and gave a brief shake of his head, "What's your role?" he asked after a momentary pause. She continued to shake her leg, saying nothing as silence hung over the small room again, the only sound the droning and humming of the Sulaco.
Huuummmmm
"Role?" the man asked again.
"Maintenance tech."
The man jotted something down, then raised his eyes to look at her, "What do you believe are your most notable traits?"
Mya huffed, "What kind of question is that?"
"Answer the question, please."
"Ugh, right, whatever... I get serious when I need to be; its how I always get the job done right. I can get overly annoyed sometimes among my co-workers, mainly because of incompetence and the few that don't know how to do jack shit." Mya folded her arms across her chest. The man had been busy writing into his papers the entire time Mya had been speaking, and now that she had finished, he reclined back into his chair, back straight. The man skimmed his own writing as he tapped the end of his pen against the paper in quick succession.
"What's your history with the USCM?"
Mya closed her eyes, as if she were recalling past events.
"What's your his-"
"I heard you the first time." she interjected, glaring at him. "I used to work as a military police officer. I honestly think I did a good job..." the man got to writing, "... Do you want me to keep going, or are you good?" the man glanced up, "No, no, keep going."
"Anyway, I think I did a good job, like I said. I just made too many bad calls." she aimed her hand towards the man, pretending her hand was a gun, "Unfortunately," she closed an eye to simulate herself taking aim, "I was too quick to pull the trigger on innocent people." Mya fired her metaphorical gun and sat back. "I didn't ask questions like I should have done. Heck, I'm pretty sure my motto back then was "Shoot first, ask questions later."' she shook her head, "Being military police was pretty stressful, you know? People depend on you to get the actual perpetrators- to make the right calls..." her leg stopped shaking, eyes staring at the clean, tiled floors. "... And I just couldn't make those good calls. The guilt was increasing, and increasing, until I just decided it was time to retire and find something new." she paused and settled her eyes back on the man who was still writing. Noticing the pause, the man looked up to meet her eyes, "You can only make those bad calls for so long." Mya's voice was almost a whisper.
Huuummmmm
The man finally nodded, "You made the right choice, Mya."
"Thanks, but I'm not looking for affirmation."
The man scratched his head with an apologetic expression.
"Uhh-" he sifted through his notes quickly, "Ah right, last question."
"Finally."
"Do you have any relations with anyone enlisted with the USCM?"
"Yeah. Isaac Miller is one."
"I notice you both have the same last name. Would you like to talk to me about that?"
"I'm not at liberty to say."
"Oh?"
"Just ask your higher ups. I'm sure they'll have an answer for you."
"I will. Anyone else you have in mind?"
"Mark Hanford."
"Your boyfriend?"
Mya laughed at this, uncrossing her legs.
"What's so funny?"
"No, he's not my boyfriend. He's a bit of an annoying older brother type in my opinion, but I love em' anyway."
The man chuckled, until the room plunged into silence.
"Ah right, there was a personal question I had. Why become a maintenance tech of al-"
"THIS IS A MESSAGE FROM COMMAND. ALL PERSONNEL ARE TO BE AT THEIR ASSIGNED WORK STATIONS!" the intercom interrupted.
"I guess that's all the time we have. I'll make sure to update your records immediately."
Mya smiled, "Cool, cool, thanks." she went to rise from her seat, as did the man across from her. They both shook hands, "It's been a pleasure, Mya."
"Yeah, likewise." she responded with a smile, turning and briskly walking out of the room, back onto the the halls of the Sulaco.
The man organized his papers, promptly walked over to the camera in the room and shut it off.
