Make Them Pay

Post by Desolane900 » 09 Aug 2016, 20:14

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Add a new type of vendor to prep that requires in game currency all marnies start with to give attachments.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Cut out the Mess Hall long lines in front of the RO office.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Each marine starts with 500 curremcy [credits, dollars, dinero, thalar, whatever the fucks] and each attachment is 250 WTFs. Each marine can only get 2 attachments but you can work for more WTFs to buy more attachments. Seeing as how the CL likes to bribe people, it would also as a side note make the CL a more desirable person to talk to.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):

I'm neutral on this, because it makes the CT's less important :'(.

I'm not sure how this affects game balance but it would definitely mitigate the agony of waiting for attachments in line.

Going to say -1 for several reasons.
  • Making all attachments into static 250 imaginary currency is a horrid idea since we all can agree not all attachments are equally-viable.
  • These machines are horribly inflexible
  • Makes Reqs job almost as boring as medicals at the start of the round
  • This doesn't stop the rush for attachments, honestly it makes it worse
  • Standards are likely to take top tier attachment before SLs/Specs get a say
To my 2nd point I might have to expand on which was "These machines are horribly inflexible", I mean with these machines will be locked to few binary restrictions like : Are you a spec, are you an sl, are you a civilian. These binary values can't be cheated, so in times of dire need like the ship is getting boarded by xenos (like that would happen, RIGHT? ...right??? shit..) while a CT can say "fuck these rules, these marines need these attachments to get a better chance at survival." You could say "you could hack them, for such times." True but what would stop the marines from hacking these machines at the start of the round? Nothing since I doubt the marines will report the hacker since said hacker is scratching their backs...

Maybe have the not as good attachments like bayonets and rail flashlights be able to be bought, and the higher end stuff like chargers and rail scopes still be at RO?

Problem is if you put just bayonets and rail flashlights, they would then serve no purpose. You can just use a screwdriver on a combat knife and flashlight (respectively) and get those things. People used to take the flashlight all the time before the armor light, but it doesn't serve much purpose anymore. RIP faithful rail flashlight...

Hm. I don't really know the usefulness of the attachments very well, but I very rarely see people taking the gyro, bipod, supressor, or recoil comp when I play CT. From that I can only assume that they're not as good, so maybe have those in that vendor?

We discussed the ability to use cash by marines to purchase things from the USCM, but it was thought to be a little stranded from the lore. We want to add more things to use cash for, but it will likely be something the CL uses to bribe people with. Denied for now.
