Give Marines Death Cries

Post by Renomaki » 13 Aug 2016, 22:13

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Ugh! ARRAAGGH! OW! *Gargle*. In other words, marines let out wails of pain and death upon dying, just like the xenos do.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): With xenos, it is a good indicator that a xeno is dead when you hear it wail. So why not let marines do the same thing? Not only would it be more immersive, it'll also provide more tactical knowledge for marines in the middle of a battle, letting them know how badly things are moving along.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Pretty simple, really. When a marine dies, it plays a random death cry of sorts fitting for a marine. We already have sounds for marines getting hugged and crying out for a medic for BOTH genders, which an aware marine can use to determine the status of other marines, so I assume this would be the same.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): It shouldn't be too hard. Just do what you did with xenos and apply it to humans, and BAM, the battlefield shall be filled with the sweet, sweet sounds of war... Well, other than the bullets and bombs that riffle the sound-waves, anyways.
Sometimes, bravery comes from the most unlikely sources.

Usually marines die from bleeding to death while unconscious. Might be odd

There are a lot of cases where xenos die the same way, so I don't think it would be that odd.

But if that is the case, why is it when aliens do the same thing, it isn't odd?

I played my share of alien, I died from bleedout as an alien, I screamed as an alien despite not dying violently.. So why do they get a pass?

+1, pretty spooky to hear a marine let out a wail as they die in the dark.

It would be better to have a sound for the scream emote, rather than dying.

Many deaths occur long after receiving the wounds during the fighting itself, and folks don't let out blood-curdling screams while slowly expiring from internal bleeding.

Yeah I like this idea, I was actually just about to post it. If you give the marines a *scream sound, you'll hear it when it autotriggers after the marines get slashed by the ayyliums :D.

+1

Aliens die with a scream too whenever mines are actually used, even though they sit there crying for help for 20 seconds, and besides, why not both?
Death by brute damage = scream
death by oxyloss, bloodloss etc = whimper

Same for aliens, though that will be a bit tricky. Maybe as long as they go past the 200 damage threshold eqivalent(ie overkill) they will scream, but if they reach the exact damage from crit damage, they whimper. Having an alien whimper after reaching exact death after a bullet and or a melee bash would also be a rare treat for marines, IMO.

Edit: just use that system in xeno example for both

To both the main suggestion and this, +1. It would be quite cool to hear your comrades screaming as they are torn asunder by aliens. Might I suggest that they also have a deathcry for larva bursting (when conscious so that doctors don't know in surgery) which would be longer.
