What Got You Hooked on CM?
What moment in the game, if there was one, made you stay with CM? I'll share mine to get started.
It was late in my second round, marines had fought a hard battle on LZ-624. The aliens were at the doorstep of our FOB at the nexus on what, to me, was an unfamiliar and confusing world. After many hours of fighting and heavy losses on both sides, we were pushed back onto the Sulaco, just barely escaping the demon-like creatures that we'd been locked in battle with for so long. We retreated to the Sulaco, licked our wounds, and prepared for a second drop. The Rasputin was loaded with no more than fifteen battle scarred, run down and exhausted marines. As we prepared ourselves mentally for the horrors that awaited us on the world below, we heard a siren blaring throughout the ship. Before realizing what was happening, we were in transit. As epic music played over the intercoms (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIGHCoVzqtk) we discussed our strategy, all of us inspired by the music we decided that we were going to make it. As we landed we fought furiously and defended that rasp, we pushed back the push from those horrifying creatures, and just as our defenses were about to crumble, command called back up the Rasputin. We survived to fight another day, and after that we knew that we could defend the Sulaco from whatever hell could throw at us.
That story is what got me hooked on CM, and the reason why I continued to play. Epic last stand moments like that :D. What epic story or cool moment got you hooked?

Well, I started playing the server around 2 years ago during the pre-alpha, now keep in mind this is not a cool battle story or anything this is just all it took to captivate me.
I was a xeno larva and had no clue what was going on first time ever playing byond at all and I was so incredibly confused but in love cos I thought the larva looked so cute! The entire round I just played larva running around going from vent to vent and I thought it was the most god damn fun thing ever. 10/10 dobbs writes best stories

Re: What Got You Hooked on CM?
I myself am rather addicted to the server due to the military RP, which is an interesting change of pace from normal station life, but also because it isn't as unpredictable as Vanilla.
Vanilla, you have no idea what is gonna happen, which means if you get an RP role like priest and are planning to do something special to make the round interesting and get people together, then too fuckin bad, it is a 30 minute wizard round, too much chaos to really get much done at all and your round is technically ruined because you didn't get to go ahead with your plans.
CM, you already have a meta idea of what you are facing, so you don't have to worry about random traitors or nuke ops or wizards and the like. You just wake up, grab your grub, get kitted up and attend briefing, and after that you load into the dropship and go on a military adventure. Depending on your role, your experience varies. Either a loyal grunt who follows his SL to the end, or a commander who leads his army to victory (hopefully). I myself might not be very robust, but I still enjoy either fighting or leading battles in a more controlled environment... Provided no grief happens in the first 15 minutes, anyways. Otherwise I get very disoriented..

Re: What Got You Hooked on CM?
Well, what got me hooked on CM was this one round that lasted for like 4 hours. What happened was the aliens were taking over most of the Sulaco as usual, when an engineer released the SM core and hid out in engineering. As 6 aliens broke into engineering the core went off and blew up the engine. Surprisingly most of the Sulaco was spared, but he decimated like 3 T3 aliens, and a ton of T1 aliens. The CO locked himself in the bridge, and when the xenos began breaking in, he called in emergency evac, and afterwards, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8AeV8Jbx6M began playing. It was glorious, as the CO hid behind a flipped table, killing 2 xenos with a revolver before being overwhelmed and literally getting ripped limb from limb. So, finally, when the evac shuttles were done fueling up, the last few marines had made their way to the evac shuttles when MOTHER suddenly declared that the shuttles weren't functional. Everyone immediately began panicking and running for their lives, and after a minute, MOTHER said that the 2nd Evac shuttle was working. At that point most marines had been killed, except for 5 marines, and 1 doctor. And while Amazing Grace was playing, the shuttle launched, and crashed back onto LV-426, where the marines promptly hid out in a building. Also, during the chaos, the CO had armed the nuke, and as soon as the marines got inside a building the entire map was decimated. It was truly magnificent.

Re: What Got You Hooked on CM?
I remember it well. The match that made me like "i'm gonna keep playing this, that was awesome" was one in which I was the sole survivor on both the alien and marine side. Was on the Nos and our EVAC shuttle got shelled and when we reached CC I stumbled out of the smoking and smoldering shuttle, battered but alive. Was like "that......was awesome".

I started way back when the Sulaco had 1 level, and there was a logistics area to assign your squad. What got me to stay was the player base then... Now it's the new features

Re: What Got You Hooked on CM?
What got me hooked was the fact that every round is different. I enjoy the military RP in a squad, commanding one, overwatching one, or just nerding out as an engineer and build stuff to see how well it helps others.
The experiences when you're in a good cooperative squad that employs great tactics, contrasted alongside all the miserable squaddies/chucklefuckery/dank memes... makes me keep coming back and hoping someday, I can be part of some epic story written in blood and sweat. May it be a hard fought victory against overwhelming odds, a brave last stand at the bridge, or holding the line and boarding the escape pods.
When I play as Xeno... I just enjoy abducting people, making baldies shoot their teammates, or decapping people I secretly don't like =P

The Pre-Alpha experience and the community at the time got me hooked on cm as well as the general comradeship between the marines.

I loved the concept of space marines, combine that with a fun cooperative experience and I was hooked. I also loved being the "door-opener" in the squad as the engineer.

I did one CM once and now I'm gay.
In reality though it's how different everything appeared from other servers. Then I saw Joseph Murta fuck up 5 xenos with a pistol and a combat knife and I was hooked.

First game as alien, became queen, low pop round, instantly called the drop ship down. Luckily, no admins were on and everything after that was fucking horrid. It was a stalemate.

Re: What Got You Hooked on CM?
My first round, ever was being a Charlie Standard on LV-624. I was wandering around northern part of the colony, looking for Charlie as they assaulted the caves and got captured. As Command called for a full retreat, I listened to their screams of agony and calls to die fighting. The Squad Leader even called for the rest of his captured men to search their bodies for grenades.

What got me hooked on CM? a bunch of things really. The whole military and the squads bit for one.the community is another one.The fact players would help you no matter what.the whole war going on.The Jokes we make. The whole getting prepped to go on a "normal" combat drop but then meeting an unknown enemy. It wasn't 1 thing that got me hooked on CM.It was a bunch a bunch of things like most other players in our community.

Woke up from cryo sleep after getting tired of playing on other servers and the first thing I seen is the xenos infesting the eastern side of the ship I had no idea what was happening so I just stood still watching marines getting fucked and defending the mess hall then a carrier tossed a hugger at me and dragged me back to the checkers nest
after words next round I went down and realized that CM had a ice map and was hooked for ever

Started when xenos were squishy and adorable. Grabbing a gun and pasting hordes of xenos was amazing fun. Not exactly "hooked" anymore but I still like playing for the shitdickery.

When I started playing, every game ended with a xenos assault on the Sulaco and a valiant defense in briefing. It was great.
I started playing when the upgrade system was just added so xenos were super OP.

Re: What Got You Hooked on CM?
The entire concept got me, I started playing and I was like "Yes, this is what I want from an RP simulator"
Aliens: Colonial Marines dissapointed me, but I still played it because it was the closest thing I had to a "The aliens are going to brutally fucking murder us and there's nothing us trained soldiers can do about it-simulator", but I found SS13 after watching my favorite streamer, and from there I saw the Colonial Marines server and just dived right in.

Re: What Got You Hooked on CM?
CM was the first Server I ever got into on Byond. EVER. The moment I got on, I was hooked, the action, the adrenaline filled moments when robusting more than one Xeno, and the RP where you can almost believe that your character could be you in a distant future where you had to kill lizards that raped your face. Believe it or not, CM had some great RP back in the day between Humans and Xenos. The changes overall, even if I got salty I still found myself loving this server. I played to just play and the way I played got me noticed by other players, but still even now I play to play for the love of it.
