Facehugger mutes marines

Post by darklizard45 » 24 Aug 2016, 14:12

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Marines are unable to talk as long as the facehugger is on their face

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Will make the securing of human hosts less risky, as we know if you capture a marine alive he might give the location of his nest and force you to face a squad of angry marines.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): The marines voice are changed to "MMMMMMPH... mmmmph..." and are unable to communicate, as long as the facehugger is on their face

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): On /tg/ station there's a wizard spell that forces the crew to wear animal masks and make the noises of the mask they are wearing, maybe we can use a modified version of this code but with facehuggers.

marines are muted for a certain amount of time. The face hugger changes sprites to show when your infected or not. It curls up. This would make you able to talk. Its also one of the risks of capturing Humans is that they will alert their friends.-1

Neutral
Biolock thinks this will help reduce soft-core power gaming by instantly knowing where you are on the map. It also makes sense and wouldn't really be too much of a disadvantage to the marines save the fact that you can no longer call the sentinel guarding you mean things.

The only reason this is neutral is because some of the heartfelt conversations you can have right before you die might be dwindled away.

Additionally, it's easy enough to pull it off your own face once you free yourself from a nest.
I'm stressing way too hard about what to put here, so I'm just gonna leave it blank.... or....

Yeah, das true. Maybe when you stand up, the hugger falls off.

it'd be better if it fell off when your nested. The hugger dies after it impregnates a host and wouldn't have the strength to hold on

Keep in mind, all of these people are nested lying down, so it wouldn't be un-cannon for a hugger to stay on someone's face. However, the whole point was to make it so marines can't just shout away their position right away.

right...we're getting off topic.I don't think this is a problem as there's not that many landmarks in the caves and any decent hive has a checkerboard system making you not be able to see anything

Currently, it does 'fall off automatically' after a few minutes of its death (dead huggers automatically disappear after some time). So it's possible for it to fall off while you're nested.

If the host is nested in a checkerboard hive, you generally don't care if other marines know he's there anyway because it's going to be defended. The times you'd really like to keep a hosts nest (and capture) secret are when the hive is lost or inaccessible and you don't have the xenos or time available to build another (or if you've gone the alien isolation route of sneaking aboard the sulaco with a drone and a couple of huggers unnoticed).

If the hive is lost, the hive is lost.I think the fact xenos would try rebuild the hive when they are the last one alive kinda BS.You lost your hive and every other xeno in said hive.you should be fucked.A Drone and a couple huggers getting on the sulaco should not be able to take down most of the damn crew. The drone should be on the plnet building up the hive.

The hive being lost doesn't necessarily mean that the xenos are all but wiped out. Plenty of games have happened where the aliens have ended up being driven out of the hive and lost the queen and every drone or hive lord, but still made a comeback with what huggers and eggs that they could salvage.

which in my eyes is kinda BS.the marines went in and wiped out every single drone, queen and hivelord and yet that 1 stalling alien finds a hugger and a SSD marine and rebuilds the hive is not fun.Marines earnt their victory by wiping out the hive.Xenos shouldn't be rewarded for losing the hive they should be punished.

+1, i like the idea because:

-does stop powergaming
- resin cuffs have been removed
- hugger does decay, so you still have access to comms and talking... it will just be a very small amount of time before you pop and die. unless you unstick yourself and remove the hugger.
Gaze upon me,
for I have wandered deep into the ancient tombs of knowledge to which lie madness and sorrow, cleansing a path for all those who walk behind me...

...

But seriously, does uh, anyone know the way out?!

Honestly, there's no reason why you're able to talk with... that tube stuck in your mouth. +1 for the reasons such KingMire stated
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.
