Making the Atmos Windows Ungriefable

Post by Mattmaster77 » 10 Sep 2016, 22:01

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Over multiple occasions, there are certain MTs or CEs that would remove the window in Atmos, usually the window keeping the phoron in. And later on the round, when xenos board they will intentionally release it out of atmos, and spread it into the rest of the Sulaco.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Prevents xeno cheese by abusing atmos. Prevents griefing overall.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Remove the ability to place acid on the windows in atmos (if it's still possible) and the remove the ability to remove the window from the floor and move it elsewhere.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):

There's way to fix the atmo. If you didn't fix it and phoron's running around the ship, just burn it for maximum retribution on xenos.
(Note: Xenos take damage from phoron fires + You can lock down sections of the ship to prevent too much burning. If you think you're dying to phoron and all you can just grab oxygen masks etc)
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

This isn't what the suggestion is.

It's to prevent the windows in atmos from being broken/acided in order to INTENTIONALLY release atmos.

Fine by me, +1. As long as there's a pipe dispenser, I can easily set up an anti-xeno surgical plasma release system without going through the messy route of breaking windows.

I know, that's actually what I'm talking about. Call me a masochist, but I like the flavour of fixing atmo and fighting in it at rare occasions.

Okay. I'm an actual MT player, so... FIRST. Xenos CANNOT acid the "Ultra-strong glass" (tried as Spitter once :D) that blocks the atmos tanks OR any of the walls that make up the atmos tanks (THOSE PUPPIES survive SM delamination juust fine).
SECOND, the ULTRA-STRONG GLASS is ridiculously strong, like I've never seen it break, and I've used it as a burnmix container regularly. Once put 6-7 handgun bullets into a piece I pried loose, no effect. It CAN be C-4'd, and it CAN be unscrew-crowbar-unscrew'd. Making it EVEN MORE unbreakable serves little purpose, as it's already ludicrously strong.

Also, if you remove my ability to move it, you remove my ability to re-insert a SM core after the baldie CE managed to eject it into the depths of space 3 min into the round. I need to move quick to lynch the CE and get a new core installed so I can deal with the... idunno, SM core probably blasting tcomms. An unmoveable window will slow me more than I can deal with readily.

I think he means the one in atmos, where the scrubbers lead.

Mhm. I know what he means. ALL the windows there, both lower-deck atmos windows, and the SM window are of the same type. Changing one affects all of them. I do not think this change needs to be made. Just report griefers...

It's more of a QoL improvement. Like the suggestion to replace some of the observation deck windows with walls/ungriefable windows

There have been rounds where there are no staff with the ability to clean up atmos on. And reporting the griefers just does nothing when the damage already has been done. And if the xenos board and they see atmos flooded with shit they know they can abuse to fuck over the marines, they will melt it open and spread it throughout the Sulaco.

Just to note any explosives used on windows or near them will just shatter them no matter the health of the window.

I've seen SM blasts take them out and seen them be C-4'd, never seen a grenade used, though.
