Trash everywhere. Does it annoy only me?

Post by Szunti » 30 Sep 2016, 08:02

I understand that there is no time for cleaning on the planet while hunting, but the FOB and even the Sulaco is no different. Used medipens on medbay floor, operating room is a mess, package wrappers in the canteen, closets left open in the preps, uniforms on the floor instead of put back into the closets, not used equipment left on floor instead of brought back to RO etc.

I have no real life experience, but movies show marines doing their beds, folding their uniforms, cleaning rooms. Is it a lie? Or happens only during training? I would expect a professional force to stay organised and not covered in trash.

There is literally no way to enforce "Pick up that can" in a way that is not likely to cause significant impedance to all parties involved.

Also, real life FOB's have dedicated cleaning crews, and still get messy as hell. Even moreso for smaller bases, such as COP's (which is a more accurate description of what marines set up planetside). I know COP's that were pigsties, aside from when burnpits got used.

My advice? Suck it up, put the trash away if it annoys you so much.

I am personally always organized and clean up after myself, for the immurshion. We do have a /custodial/ staff, the MTs. They have a fully stocked janitorial cart, and numerous cleaning nades. The real question you should be asking, is not why the jarheads are messy, but why do the MTs maids not clean up after their fellow crew members masters?

As a shore navy nuke who just finished his duty today, most commands both have a "pick up after yourselves" policy (common sense, I don't throw my can on the grass...), and a rotating duty section which has the unenviable job of maintaining the command's cleanliness by cleaning for anywhere from a few minutes to hours, in addition to our regular duties. Shipboard, there are daily calls to clean, where most off-duty crew stop and clean their workspace and living area for a short time.

On the server, there's no way to enforce this, and marines react VIOLENTLY to any task not involving shooting xenos (e.g. Req paperwork, medical treatment lines, NOT being able to steal all the metal from engi...)

Don't diss the MT's. I know how to selective mute you, OR your whole squad, and that remote-triggered maxcap atmos bomb I gave you? I have a spare trigger. Treat us as glorified janitors, and we'll have fun with you.

Yeah, I find the clutter annoying and completely unnecessary most of the time. Empty and partial magazines end up EVERYWHERE and there is really no need for it, especially later in the round when the lag starts to sink in which I'm sure has a lot to do with all the items on the map. It's why I've been a huge advocate for ammo boxes, a way that marines can refill empty magazines in the field. Marines would then want to keep their magazines for refills, and the server wouldn't get bogged down from 300 or more empty magazines strewn across the map.

I tend to keep things tidy on my end. I throw things I don't need like my backpack into the disposal chute, and any usable or partially usable gear (partially emptied shotgun shell boxes, partial magazines) gets thrown on the tables. If I see huge amounts of clutter and trash in the locker rooms I usually grab two things and throw them in disposals on my way out the door.

I wish there was a working or at least partially working disposal system in the Nexus so trash items could get tossed. As the round goes on marines need ammo and other supplies, and digging through piles of trash and going through empty ammo belts looking for magazines is a pain and really slows things down.

Fuck with me you say?! I'll break all the windows on the Sulaco that don't lead to the cold void of space.

Ookay? Is that a threat? I don't care about windows, I'm too busy dismantling and dragging redundant tcomms equipment into engineering.

To be honest, the empty flare boxes and cardboard boxes get on my nerves because I see that excellent box of flares only to find that it is empty and all you have to do to turn it into paper again is use it in your hand.

I think I may be the only MT who enjoys cleaning up the litter that marines leave behind.

It gets pretty boring otherwise. Unless the dropship or parts of the main ship get damaged, you aren't going to have a lot to keep you busy during long rounds. Get out the bag and soap and lets make the ship sparkle, I say.

There's not enough cute food trash around, since SOMEONE removed usual SS13 food from vendors and replaced em with ugly plastic papers.

I've seen injured Marines go unnoticed because their bloodied bodies are buried under trash and guns.
