Undo Restricted Access Change To Pod Shutters
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Today, standard marines no longer have access to the drop pod shutter controls. Meaning they cannot be raised or lowered while on the ground and aliens are outside. This is Retarded with a capital R. Who was complaining about this? Why was this even an issue?
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): This change makes no sense, not when Xenos can walk through shuttle/pod doors via universal access.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Just undo it.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Undo this nonsensical change.

Re: Undo Restricted Access Change To Pod Shutters
Shutter access which saves the lives of marines who get trapped on the ground. Marines have always been able to control the shutters to try and hold out while they wait for command to stop eating their hats long enough to help them. Removing this was an unnecessary and baffling change that came out of nowhere.YungCuz wrote:Its just shutter access.

Maybe it was changed for a reason.

Like trying to delay the xenos from entering the ship by spamming shutters.YungCuz wrote:Maybe it was changed for a reason.

Re: Undo Restricted Access Change To Pod Shutters
It was an undocumented change, didn't even appear in the changelog. If it was such a huge issue that needed addressing then let's hear the guy who made the change defend it.
The amount of times my life has been saved in the past year by pod/shuttle shutters is pretty damn high, but it has never changed the course of a round. Xenos on a rampage still win regardless of killing a few extra marines trapped on the ground, but it adds to the drama and lets people have a small moment of victory when they survive and escape. And it's not even a consistent change since squad leaders still have access to the shutters. So you're allowed to try and defend yourselves on the pod if you have a SL alive, but if you're 10 marines and 2 specialists trying to keep the Queen out while you're screaming at Bill Carson over the radio to recall the pod then you're just fucked? Who designed these Kervokianesque death machines the marines use that actively kill the people using them? Their doors can't even keep space aliens out.

I actually agree it should be changed back. Yeah a few dipshits jump out but I've never seen it being much of an issue. However being able to close those shutters has been a lifesaver countless times.

Re: Undo Restricted Access Change To Pod Shutters
I do believe that shutter access was changed because marines were being killed in transit before the Marines even get onto the ground. This ruins the round for the Marines causing an OOC event which requires staff to aheal them, causing a massive break in immersion. While not being able to close the shutters as a standard MIGHT cause some marine deaths, the Marines died legitimately, not due to grief.

What you just described literally makes no sense.Snypehunter007 wrote:I do believe that shutter access was changed because marines were being killed in transit before the Marines even get onto the ground. Also oh look 15+ marines were all just killed on the shuttle because no one could close the shutters, the SLs were all dead, and the Pilot officer couldn't make it to the back of the ship because aliens took over the rear compartment because they have magic universal access to the ship.
Holy fuck is this comically stupid haha.

Re: Undo Restricted Access Change To Pod Shutters
What he means is that players would open the shutters in flight, causing people to get sucked out of the ship and killed/gibbed on impact with the ground.

Re: Undo Restricted Access Change To Pod Shutters
They already made it so that shutters can't be opened during flight. Like.. weeks or months ago? This hasn't been an issue in a very long time. Making it so that marines can't close the shutters while LANDED is the problem here.JPR wrote:What he means is that players would open the shutters in flight, causing people to get sucked out of the ship and killed/gibbed on impact with the ground.
Edit: August 6 [hotfix] Can no longer open shuttle shutters while in flight.
So this clearly isn't the reason.

Re: Undo Restricted Access Change To Pod Shutters
Probably not changing, since POs are fairly common, and it prevents shutter toggling by randos. Denied for the time being.
