What goes through command's minds when they send marines on suicide runs? Why do they complain marines are shit and not following orders after loosing an alien major due to this? Discuss please

Playing CO is hard as fuck. Those suicide runs usually happen when 30+ marines retreat and then refuse to attack the 10 remaining xenos. Then, the marines attack but don't actually do much beside walk out, shoot a little then run at the first sight of a xeno and box themselves in. In my experience, anyway

Command staff are usually completely ignorant of the actual situation on the ground at the best of times.

Saying there is only 10 aliens left and 20 marines left doesn't mean the marines will win. in fact I'd say those are losing odds in almost all circumstances. The last aliens alive tend to be their best players, especially during very long rounds where attrition has wiped out both sides. Marines, no matter how good you are, are very susceptible to being killed at all times, that's just the nature of combat in CM. A good alien player should really never be killed unless they make a huge mistake or are massively out numbered.

Low alien numbers at high pop are when the aliens are at their most dangerous. Stupid decisions made at this point then cascade into alien majors or just drawing out the round for another hour.

This.

Just because you retreat, doesn't mean you camp.

It is better to throw everything you got at the aliens and have a quick defeat than to try and delay the inevitable.
