So on our wiki there are 11+ ranks including the commander and a few others ranks.
•Command Sergeant Major of the USSF (United States Space Forces)
•Sergeant Major
•Master Sergeant/First Sergeant
•Sergeant First Class
•Staff Sergeant
•Technical Sergeant
•Sergeant
•Corporal
•Lance Corporal
•Private First Class
•Private
My question is that will there be any plan down the line to utilise the ranks which aren't in-game (besides for the extremely rare occasion someone gets promoted/demoted in rank.)currently such as the private, lance corporal, sergeant first class, master sergeant and etc.
For example every standard starts as a private but after X amount of rounds they become a private first class, same system could be in place for other jobs as well e.g. Medic/Engineers start as a Lcpl and then after X amount of rounds become a Cpl.This could then be linked to specs, squad leaders and generally all roles besides doctors.

Re: The Rank System.
This is a really cool idea, and I really like it. We've discussed progressions systems before, and I love the idea, but it will definitely be pretty far down the round. We have a lot to get to before we get to progression systems.

Re: The Rank System.
The ranks you listed are enlisted ranks, there are officer ranks too (US Naval ones (which we apparently use... for MARINE command) are Ensign, Lieutenant JG, Lieutenant, Lieutenant Commander, Commander, Captain, then 4 "admirals" of slightly differing title. Commander's the highest rank we use, as our CO of a small, but independent, ship).
ADDITIONALLY, certain positions will not be fillable by certain ranks by default, due to being too highly promoted. A Sergent won't be a standard, he's been promoted for ability/time in rate, and will work a job that needs that rank. I'm explaining it badly, but basically, once you're promoted enough, you tend to be moved into leadership positions/specialized roles and out of manual labor/"shoot it in the face" jobs. Also, officers don't work (manual labor) as a matter of course.
THAT SAID, +1.
Limit rank progression to 1 or 2 grades at most to avoid having Xur end up a command sergeant major (not of the USSF, just in general (CSM is a term attached to a regular SM, not a promotion, which indicates the particular SM serves in an advisory role to the WHOLE command he's assigned to, and the CSM of the USSF would be the senior enlisted advisor of the WHOLE USSF and would have an office next to the Skymarshal))... while STILL being a standard.

Re: The Rank System.
JPR I never stated the ranks would carry over to every job, I implied you would start at a low rank(corresponding to the job) for the first couple of rounds you play as that job and then if you play for that round over x amount of rounds that jobs rank increases. Each job having a maximum rank and a minimum rank corresponding to that job.
An example being say I play as a medic for X amount of rounds and become a Cpl medic instead of Lcpl, it means that if I go to play standard and I haven't played many rounds as said standard I'll be a Pte when I do.
Hopefully that helps clear that up.

Yeah, that's what I thought you meant, I just wanted to note that jobs do need a rank cap.TopHatPenguin wrote:JPR I never stated the ranks would carry over to every job, I implied you would start at a low rank(corresponding to the job) for the first couple of rounds you play as that job and then if you play for that round over x amount of rounds that jobs rank increases. Yeah, I can agree with you pal, that they need a cap if this was to get in.JPR wrote: Yeah, that's what I thought you meant, I just wanted to note that jobs do need a rank cap.
