On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate? 15h

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)? Gmod server/community leadership

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers? I've played on-off for perhaps 1.5 years or so now.

What other servers do you play on? Atm none, used to play normal SS13 on goon and baystation etc.

What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM? None

Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before? No

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where? No

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines? I don't think so, I've been banned for a few hours a few times

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, where and When (roughly)? Yes, accidentally blew up the engine like 2 years ago

Are you familiar with the chat program Slack (its use is required)? No but I have no problem in learning a new program

Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.



1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.
Observe what happens, once the marines/MP's deal with the issue I find out why the person was shooting and act accordingly. You never know if there's a legit mutiny or whatever.


2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.
Close the breach if it makes the game not fun, leave it if it's an extra challenge for marines.



3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.
Use mother/USMC to say no


4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.
If the round wasn't ruined, let marines deal with it themselves. If marines died, see if there's a legit RP reason (escalation of force etc) and act accordingly.


5. A played is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.
Tell the guy to knock it off and kick him off the server.


6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.
Explain the situation and point towards the wiki/forums for rules and stuff, ask them to change their name.

6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, noone has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.
Point towards the rules post and tell them to change their name


7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.
Unless the sulaco is boarded and everything went to shit, tell the doctor to ditch the rifle. Point towards the rules.


8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
Point towards the rules and tell them to stop

9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
Use USMC/MOTHER to order marines to complete the mission.


10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.
Ban the marine as per rules, point towards the rules


11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.
MP's will most likely deal with it. Mention to the offender that he's being a dick and to knock it off.


12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.
Explain to the offender that that's not how lethal force escalation works, if the victim is not offended too much (finally got spec and gibbed in RO's line) let the MP's deal out the punishment as long as it doesn't end in a bloodbath. If shit hits the fan, banhammer and point to the rules.



Any additional information you'd like to add?
I am a shitlord, but I am an adaptive and learning shitlord that learns from their mistakes. I also prefer to not deal with minor stuff if I can give everyone a warning and everyone can continue to enjoy the game which sounds like exactly what should be the attitude. As long as nobody's round is ruined and the behavior is in the spirit of the server and rules, I'm fine with it.

So, this is..... not a great a application at all really.
I like your past experience, I like your availability, but I don't know you in game and can only go off of your answers, and I don't like those.

1. When you hear hoofbeats, think horses not zebras. If it looks like blatant grief, if it sounds like blatant grief, and if it smells like blatant grief, it's almost certainly blatant grief. Here, you would sleep the guy who is popping off in briefing at round start, investigate, heal anyone he injured, and handle the griefer as per his notes.

2. You always close the breach unless it's from pred gauntlets. ALWAYS. With our atmos system, a breach could ruin the entire round. Furthermore, you need to investigate this. If it's blatant breaching with past notes, that player needs to be handled.

3. Only Head Staff can give out the nuke codes.

4. This is another grief situation. You need to talk to all involved and see what the actual situation was. Also, the researcher needs to be spoken to. The researcher is liable if his research grenades are used for grief as he shouldn't be handing out research grenades all willy nilly.

5. There is no reason to ban anyone for this. You mute their Ahelps and add a note.

10. Automatic 3 hour ban as per protocol.

11. There isn't even a reason to PM this guy unless the issue becomes pervasive past the cryo room.

12. You've explained nothing of your investigation. You've mentioned nothing about notes. You've mention nothing of the coveted aheal if it was grief, etc.

Overall, I'm going -1. I feel like you have very little understand of protocols and procedures. Furthermore, your lack of emphasis on investigation and notes severely hindered you on this application. Please do feel free to re-educate yourself and apply at a later date though if this is not accepted.

Well, it is indeed a very tricky case since you really can't get to know me without stalking me ingame (and even then, not much) considering I'm not really a forum bunny. Hypothetical situations forum application is like a job interview, it doesn't REALLY give you anything useful (except that he person can write without spelling mistakes or at least bothers to correct mistakes underlined by the browser) and you really don't have a better tool. I also suck badly at writing applications, IRL or online, thank fucking god I got an internship already.

I play a lot of SS13 and since I found CM like 1.5 years ago, exclusively colonial marines and I heard in-game that you badly need mods and I have experience managing people (tutoring students, managing army recruits, online RP communities).

A simple OODA loop tells me that unless I know what I'm doing, I shouldn't act so that I don't make it worse. I have no idea what people are thinking, what are their reasons are etc. unless I ask them and especially as a new trial/full mod I'd be damned if I take action "for no reason". I also have no idea what powers do mods or admins etc. have in SS13 except what I see as a player, and that's basically space carps. The more experience, the more quicker decisions I'd be able to make without having to analyze the situation for ages.

For example slc97's concerns, what if there's a group of hardcore roleplayers that wanted to have a fight between themselves? Surely on SULACO it's very easy to revive/heal people AFTER the situation defused itself, I've witnessed this a dozen times.

I'd be happy to discuss whatever since I believe discussion is the best way to see whether a candidate is capable

I really don't think I need to say anything more on this application, most of it's been said, While I have seen you about before, As I cover the GMT timeslot, The actual answers are soooo wrong and don't give me any real faith sorry to say.
