Ranking System

Post by Finefire984 » 17 Nov 2016, 20:44

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Ranks that players can earn by playing a certain number of rounds and making names and marines more unique. In stead of always saying still like Private Carrio or Private First class Carrio as a standard I could earn the rank of something like lance corporal, or even higher like Mastery Sargent of the United Space Marine Corps.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
It would benefit the marines because it would separate the new players to the old ones. SL's could go a bit easier on people like Privates but be harder on marines with Lance Corporal or Corporals that aren't medics/ Engis.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
It would work like the normal US military ranks. Enlisted: Private, Private First Class,Lance Corporal, Corporal, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, Gunnery Sergeant, Mastery Sergeant, Master Gunnery Sergeant, Sergeant Major, and Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps. OR Officer: 2nd Lieutenant, 1st lieutenant, Captain, Major, Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, Brigadier General, Major General, Lieutenant General, and General. Would be cool if you did it both ways.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
It could work like how Paradise has the day limit for their jobs, but instead for ranks. Only certain ranks can have certain jobs and have it be by rounds instead of days. This would be very hard to add on to the game but would add a cool new vibe the CM that would possibly get more people to join and love the game.

Standards becoming Gunnary Sergeants really messes things up a bit.

Our current rank system is to allow a rather easy flowchart of command. If the SL dies, it falls to the Specialist, then the medic, then the Engineer, then the standards. (Or something like that, but it's pretty simple)

Under this new system, the squad is a lot less intuitive, and would lead to a lot of confusion.

It the same time, Joshuu, it'd ensure that the most experienced player was taking command. Most of the time an entire squad would be what we call "standards", and those members would be an assortment of ranks.

We could get this implemented as a start of additions such as new jobs. There needs to be a start somewhere though to inspire the creation of new ideas like that and i think this would be a great start to it. This isn't my decision though, I'm sure you guys can find flaws with the idea. This is a flaw that i debated about before I made this suggestion and thought that this type of ranking structure can allow more possibilities for improvement.

Idk, like Joshuu said this messes without our current ranking system pretty badly.

Just give ranks some range and requirement to play roles to unlock "superior" ones. You start as just a Private standart, then you are Private First class to indicate that you are somewhat more experienced then newborn bald "boot". Once you unlock corporal, you can play as medic or engineer or keep playing as Pvt.FC standart. The thing is that instead of one rank for every job there will be like two or three for each. So you can clearly see who is newbie and who is more experienced without messing up ranks too much.

Standard - Start out as Private, work your way up to Private First Class
Medic/Engineer - Start as LCpl work your way to Cpl
Spec - Cpl then work your way up to Sgt
SL - Start as Sgt then work your way up to SSGT

(Alternately for Spec and SL you could have other ranks but in-theory it could work, just there would be some difficulties when a new SL joins and the spec is the same rank, hence why some more official ranks could be useful)

I'm neutral on this it could be interesting, it could also be awful either way you could do it like above and it would kind of work.
Having the jobs be locked through playtime I would be against, but having the job start at a lower rank would be kind of interesting then you go up a rank after X. Which means the only impact it would have would be the potential segregation of new players due to their rank being low and as such they'd be ousted.

I learned more by actually playing SL than as a Marine about what makes a SL so important.

If you do make a way to restrict people via playtime, at least don't make it so you have to play weeks on end in order to just be a SL or something dumb like that. Playtime does not indicate your level of intelligence in a role either; some people are also not suited for a command role no matter how intelligent they are because they simply don't know how to command but are god-tier engineers instead. Id say it should be more of an administrative issue if someone is being dumb in a command role instead of implementing a "ranking" system that is only determined by playtime and nothing else.

Time means nothing. What I want to know when I see a marine if he follows orders or not. I'd like if the CO could promote officers. Officers who were given the higher rank by the CO could promote SLs. And SLs who have the higher rank could promote marines.

Just for clarification, this post IS about time promoting people IC for the amount of rounds they have played right?

The way I understood the OP, he is relegating our current jobs into "ranks" via OOC playtime. So the longer OOCly you have played, the higher your rank is IC, which in turn allows you to play as different jobs (combat medic, SL, BO, etc).

This would break the current ranking system so badly that it would break IC CoC and is unfeasible.

Asking this to be locked.

This wouldn't really work with how ranks are set up, or the actual military. Denied.
