Discord POLITICAL THUNDERDOME Channel
Summary

Shalom fellow gamers, I think a channel in the discord dedicated to political discussion and debate would be really epic, useful, and generally enjoyable

Details

You add a channel below shitposting somewhere with a catchy totally hilarious name that has a few rules ontop of the discord rules.


1.Anything goes as long as the attacks are not personal

2.Keep the debate topics serious (basically no shitposting)


Because it keeps the original discord rules, you can't go in there personally insulting people or dropping N bombs or whatever, but at the same time, because it's a debate channel, you can debate things that maybe staffu don't like relating to politics and won't get banned unless you insult another person directly.

Benefits

For one, I think this stops political debates from popping up in #shitposting, #offtopic or #general, and it also gives a place for people who like to debate stuff to go and do that in a community wherein they know people. Given that the channel remains serious, it hopefully will not become shitposting, and it also can encompass topics of conversation that would maybe be out of place in #off-topic for someone who doesn't want to go and be bombarded with politics or whatever.

For those people who are worried that this will turn the discord into an ULTRA TOXIC HORRIBLE HIVE OF SCUM AND VILLAINY, at least one other ss13 server (Aurora) already has this and it works pretty well and debates are pretty civil, generally. I think the key to this working is to not ban people for their political views and to make sure that people aren't directly insulting other people in that channel.


P.S. this has nothing to do with the ban appeal going on right now and I made this suggestion before it happened. Even still, I think with that in mind this could be a good channel for discussing things that were talked about in that conversation like allied warcrimes, bombing of dresden, historical revisionism, et cetera. If you think someone has abhorrent views, debate them, and I think this would be the best channel for it

The ONLY way I could ever see this happening is if there was an opt in tag to see the chat/room to begin with. That way only those who requested access would see it and only those interested in its content would go there. However this is just another room for discord mods to moderate, so I don't see this happening.
